My experience was very negative of the Arthur Group (I've noticed tonight that the Arthur Group has removed itself from Indeed.com and hence erased the 57 comments, 53 of which were very negative and 4 appeared to be from the Arthur Group...).
Look here it is - I got drawn into the trap of giving them $3,000 for services for resume preparation, blue print and letter sending. I basically met these guys over 2.5 months once a week, while they read my thoughts, chatted to me for an hour about nothing in particular and then I left to do the next section of my resume! Finally, I finished my resume and they moved me to letter sending out.
They gave me a companies register and asked me to review it and identify the companies I wanted to them to send my resume to. They offered no insight at all, nor were there any client relationships with any business. I never met anyone to put me in front of, from their clients? At the interview (with my wife?) they told me that they had clients willing to pay me $200k+ and it was wise for them to prepare me for their clients positions. They're assistance had "never" failed to place a candidate, even though their owner Barry Trimble, wouldn't declare how many people had ever been placed.
Also, the letter writing, my wife and I were told, had never failed to place a client! After the convincing sales pitch, you're left thinking why I'd be stupid not to pay them for the services, after all I'm paying them 11% for placement and these fees come out of the fee. Thankfully, I had the sense not to pay for interview skills and just told that I'd never failed an interview and as such I'd run with my own instincts. Barry, was certainly a little upset on this, as he wanted to charge me about 2-3k for this!
Finally, no one ever called me after the resume was complete, letters went out, no one called, I registered nearly a year ago and have never had even so much as a courtesy call from them since I last spoke to them months ago. Since, this I've been meeting lots of business contacts and I drop the name The Arthur Group and I've had condolences, some saying those guys should be put out of business, I thought that they were shut down, didn't the Attorney General shut them down for malpractice, etc, etc - really I felt like a moron every time I mentioned their dumb name.
My experience has left me realizing that they have no real clients, they skim jobs off the internet sites, there business model is to take 10-15 times market rate for resume writing (actually, they don't even write it).
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and would stay away.

Indeed.com has no gonads. They must have got a letter from an attorney or something. They have pulled down the appropriate and truthful comments regarding the Arthur Group.
Shame on Indeed.com...shame on the Arthur Group. They are a sham/scam that takes money from unsuspecting job hunters.
Yes - I believe that they did remove everything from Indeed. Then we need to find other ways to highlight their scams. Try writing to the other websites that they use to see if we can get them removed from use.

Has there ever been a positive result with some one who has used The Arthur Group? I am just curious. I looked them up on the BBB website and their was nothing that was unresolved or negative.
Oh my gosh....I just talked with them yesterday. They are on career builder. I sent my resume to them and then they emailed me back. I "interviewed" with this goofy guy. They wanted me to redo my resume (asked if I would be willing to pay someone to do it), make me a "candidate" and help me find a new career....the aggressive aproach...3-6 months.( I laughed at that) At first he said it was free, unless they are not charging the company. By the time the whole conversation was done...he wanted me to pay $190.00 to start the process. (I am sure they would of tried to get more from me) When I got off the phone I was so mad (I was mad because he basically said my resume sucked)(and I worked hard on it)(which is part of the "sales" pitch)...He e-mailed me and I have not emailed him back. thank you for the information...sorry you got caught up with it. How is the new job?
Mark me down as another unsatisfied customers of The Arthur Group. In June 2007, I went through their entire process, signed the Placement Agreement, paid the $195, etc.. It is now nine months later and all I have to show for it is a bunch of 'canned' Candidate Notification e-mails with no interviews, no referrals, nothing!
I worked with the Arthur Group last fall and followed all recommendations. Thankfully I did! My resume was a train wreck (I was only getting hits on Monster and Career builder for jobs an entry level college kid would get and I have over 10 years experience in the corporate world), I couldn't interview out of a paper bag, and now I have real access to jobs for the rest of my working career. After intense pre work and follow through on my end, I have successful been placed through the Arthur Group and could not be more pleased. Sure, it took some work and dedication, but there is NO WAY I would be where I am at today without their help.
For those of you that thought you could pay a few hundred dollars and land a 6 figure job just by doing so....ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? The competition at that level is extremely intense. Without preparation, expert advice, and the right connections, you are sure to go down in flames. Not sure if anyone ever reads this but, thank you for the opportunity. I would still be an uneducated goof when it comes to searching at the executive level and would probably be whining about the same things a few people out of hundreds of thousands have time to whine about on pages like this..
I joined the arthur group some 18 months ago, paid a bunch of cash, got zip for it and have never had a single referral!! Not a sniff. I have a $100k plus salary got by my own methods and resume - these guys were morons and I since talked to a bunch of people laughing at me for falling for their scam.
As far as the last post is concerned - I'd be shocking if you learnt anything worth 50 cents from them and got a good job due to their advice. I'd guess you work at the Arthur Group and given that the hundreds of negative comments on Indeed.com hurt you, you've probably nothing better to do now that drop in dumb comments.

I'm only sorry I didn't copy the Indeed comments and put them here, there were people from all over the TAGs states that were pissed with them.
I was sand bagged recently as well. Brought my wife in, gave him $500 and never got squat. I did all the work and I saw several jobs which I was a perfect match for and even dropped my salary requirements to see if I got an interview. I called Barry and asked what was going on and he blamed my poor resume. I eventually went to 5 other firms who said my resume looked great and there would be no problem. I went back to Barry and said good-bye! He made the comment that they were going to "own the market" and I was foolish to leave.
Also, I find it very interesting that the has all these VP positions with no company attached are all TAG. I have contacted most of the companies in the area to find out he is not even known to them. I think it is time to get the Attorney General involved.
I've meet several people who knew of MR Barry T. and they all knew him and TAG as a scam. They have been shut down before and should be again. It's good people that need work that keep these scammers alive. It's time that Fox reporters got onto them. I've been technically with them for a year and never had so much as a snif of an interview. They won't give you their success figures, because they haven't had any successes. Really, if you are lucky enough to be reading this before you spend your money, please don't and drop $5 into a charity box as a good will donation for reading this and go home feeling good.

I used The Arthur Group several years ago, paid them $8,000; and did not recieve anything for it! I stayed with them for roughly six months before I finally said enough is enough and left them. What is interesting is that my profile is still posted on the web page, indicating me as a currrent client. The individuals that were supposed to help me prepare a resume were rather worthless; ask them questions about the process and what they actually know about the job market other than general knowledge and you will quickly realize they not as knowledable and connected as they pretend.
Bottom line stay away and learn from my mistakes; and the mistakes of others.

I’ll make this one post, and will not read or respond to subsequent posts, as I have a life.
I’ve become familiar with The Arthur Group and Barry Trimble over the last couple of weeks after being warned by a friend/colleague who had “heard” some bad press. Because I trust her judgment I read this blog, researched the firm thoroughly, and proceeded to work with Barry and the team.
These are my conclusions:
(a) you’re all less than vastly intelligent, or at least cannot perform the most basic of math and/or logical reasoning. I myself would not hire you because of this shortcoming. (You probably got in to the St. Thomas MBA program, but could not get into Carlson without this basic ability.)
(b) Barry and TAG were merely trying to coach and train you to the point that they were comfortable presenting you to their coveted clients. In some cases, whether it was for resume work and/or interview coaching, you chose not to pay for the services, didn’t find a job within you’re expected timeframe. Now you’re scapegoating because you feel victimized for having spent money and not “received” a $200,000 job.
(c) TAG - while being a very aggressive firm – operates above board and takes pride in their integrity.
(d) You’ll say that I’m with TAG, I won’t see it and will go on with my life, and TAG will continue to grow by providing valuable services to local employers and candidates -- upsetting less-than-stellar candidates who see themselves as victims all the while
Here are a couple of things to think about. If you don’t feel stupid afterward, you still don’t understand it and should be happy you ever had a job in the first place.
(a) How on earth do you think TAG pays for offices on the 13th floor in the financial district, and a couple dozen VPs? Certainly not by ripping off poor little candidates $800 and $3000 at a time. It should be pretty obvious that the money in this industry is earned on the demand side, not in the candidate directly. Do the math.
(b) Read the employer side of TAGs web site. Feel stupid yet? And regarding whether the posted employer firms and jobs actually exist: do you really think someone sits full time at TAG and thinks of, and posts, fictitious jobs? Wow, that’s powerful scapegoating!
(c) You all signed – as I have – a document stating that you understand the agreement and services rendered do not mean TAG finds you a job, guaranteed (although they do have a 100% satisfaction guarantee with employer clients who, by the way, not only exist but love TAG. I know this first hand and have also spoken to peers who know them to be an “elite” search firm.)
(d) Your threat to get the MN AG involved is quite ironic seeing as that Barry spent a significant amount of money out of his own pocket to work WITH the AG to uncover an industry peer who was operating unscrupulously. If you really think you’ve uncovered a big local recruiter-gate, call a local news reporter. If you’re right you’re hard work will make it to the news and you’ll be quite proud of yourself. Otherwise, concentrate on your own business and stop these lame attempts to inflict harm to a team of hardworking professionals.
Lastly, because I did ask a lot of questions (did you?), Barry informed me while I was in his office that he’d be happy to have you in and remind you of the turn of events – did you do homework in a timely fashion? Did you think you’re resume was great work because you’re such a savvy marketer? Did you work WITH the firm or did you actually expect to pay a mere few hundred or thousand to be HANDED a $200,000 job? That would be almost literally the best investment in the history of American commerce (an order of magnitude of 66% if you paid $3K)! Don’t you think there’d be lines wrapped around the Metrodome? That’s because you needed to do some work, too, so you’re providing yourself with the rest of the services with TAGs guidance.
Sorry - got to post on the bright young lady who has an awful lot of amazingly good things to say about TAG. Seems surprising to me to be so positive about TAG as she is only a client and wants to 'rebuke' the numerous statements from many. I'd like to remind all that when Indeed.com had comments on employers - there were over 70 posts, 2 positive and 68 negative. The posts spanned chicago, minnesota and a couple of other states that TAG 'works' from. TAG took after Indeed to stop allowing people to post their real life negative experiences.
TAG can easily resolve all this by stating how many candidates that they have placed - funny thing, Barry T claims he's not allowed to disclose this! This is strange, as any legitimate agency is only too happy to tell you about their successes.
Having asked around Minneapolis for nearly three years now I have only ever heard two responses when mentioning TAG:
1) never heard of them, or
2) I thought those guys were shutdown for malpractice.
My council to anyone is not to waste your time or money, but if you choose to ignore this then be forewarned your heading down some well trodden path that people keep getting scammed from.
(by the by, 66% return on 3k would be 2k - maybe that coaching by TAG didn't reap the benefits that you're bragging about??)
These guys are definitely a scam. I met with Barry several years ago and all he did was tell me that at my age that there was no way I was going to get a top paying job without him (I was 46 at the time). I walked out of his offices, conducted my own job search, and landed an exec director position 6 months later. The guy is a con artist. Steer clear. In fact, Careerbuilder should ban his ad postings - really surprised that CB allows such a blatent crook on their employment site.
TAG should be stoped. It is clear that the positive comments are posted by TAG employes. There is no need for them to post sophomoric comments regarding MBA's and "my college is better than your college" type remarks. These are clearly comments on the level of TAG.
I don't think we have too much to worry about, as TAG will not be around long. The reason is, to be successful in a service industry, a buisness must have positive referals from thier customers, TAG does not, and thus, will not survive.
I just hope they go out of buisness sooner than later, as I hate to see people scammed like this...
Let's be clear here on how it goes with the Arthur Group (TAG) and Barry Trimble (the CEO).
1. After you responded to one of the Arthur Group ads found on CareerBuilder.com, Monster.com or other career sites where TAG posts jobs to get resumes, one of Barry's men calls to 'screen' you into a 'passive' or 'strategic' job seeker for one reason, and one reason only. They want to determine how much time they need to spend with you to extract money from your wallet. Strategic job seekers are easier targets because they want to move more quickly than a passive seeker.
2. Strategic job seekers are pumped up on the initial phone screener (notice I didn't state interview, because it is a scam) and asked to come in for an interview with the CEO (Barry Trimble) because they have many six-figure jobs just waiting for you because their clients exqlusively list with Barry, and Barry only.
3. Barry will greet you nicely...then it all begins to unfold. Barry is very good at his scam, he is polished, flashy, and has great one-liners to respond to ALL your questions and doubts, and most of all he has REHEARSED and REHEARSED and REHEARSED.
CAUTION or you could easily get sucked in! The first thing he does is begin his pitch on why you should be with TAG by showing you parts of his 'exclusive' database, his site traffic metrics, and aggressively begins to 'sell' you his story how he can land you a six-figure income, even if you aren't even close to earning that much!
4. Then, he critiques your resume and conducts a 'mock' interview. It's all a scam to beat you down and convince you that your resume and interview skills suck.
Remember, I mentioned earlier in this post that Barry is very polished, rehearses, and has great one-liners, so be on guard. Other bloggers describe him as "goofy" because when you work with a legitimate firm, they don't go through any of this aggressive sales pitch garbage because they are really being paid by the companies they represent.
5. After the sales pitch, the resume review and one-liners, he provides 'extremely aggressive feedback' and tells you he can help. This is where the fun of him trying to extract your money begins...he asks for a $195 fee to start. He'll provide you a list of 'target' companies he has exclusive jobs just waiting to fill. Then, as you can read in these posts he tries to extract more for resume writing services, coaching skills, letter writing services, etc. Many people on this site were sucked in by his charm and have paid him thousands of dollars.
This is a total SCAM!
So, before writing this posting I did a little more research on Barry Trimble.
Barry Trimble was once an Office Administrator for Bernard Haldane Associates (BHA). Bernard Haldane Associates seems to have committed the same scam and was shut down by the Ohio State attorney general for unfair and deceptive business practice in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. This is where Barry began his training.

It is particularly unconscionable to mislead job-seekers when times are tough."

If you simply search in Google for Bernard Haldane Associates and Barry Trimble, you will find pages and pages of information to back up these claims.
So, for those of you who have posted on this site, it's simply not enough! You need to file a complaint with your state's attorney general immediately - they will take action. It's also not enough to file a complaint with just the Better Business Bureau either. Barry has a great one-liner to the BBB complaints.
Second, you must send e-mail to each of your local news stations to pick up this story and send their investigative journalists to see him. They need to hear from the masses. Here are a few for you to e-mail that I've already contacted:

This is a Barry classic all the way to the bank! By the way, this business model works...Bernard Haldane Associates made it work for years until the attorney general of Ohio shut them down.

I was a "passive" candidate. After my very brief "interview" I was told that someone in the office would contact me about opportunities. No one ever contacted me, which I thought was strange, as I am reqularly contacted by headhunters and have an MBA from a top tier school(not in MN).
I hope that people stop using this organization.

The Arthur Group was one of the few scams I have fallen for. Two years ago I gave them $4,500 for absolutely nothing. I am an intelligent person who received lots of positive feedback from the person I was assigned to, but nothing I did made any difference. And their promises never amounted to anything. I kept receiving blank spreadsheets (instead of filled with company names), instructions for next steps that were out of sequence or past what I had already completed, etc.
I finally stopped contacting them because they were costing me additional dollars in commuting costs with nothing to show for it. I found my own position with a Fortune 300 financial services company in my area of expertise.
I hate to think of the $4,500 I spent, but I am calling it an investment in foregoing future stupidity. As for their fancy offices, they are involved in several endeavors -- while scamming people at $4,500 a pop. Adds up after awhile.

I've just got off the phone with an AG rep and was considered a candidate of 'strategic' relationship. My interview has been scheduled for early next week in downtown Minneapolis.
Then I did a bit of Google and hit this blog, which I was very glad I did. I also went to the BBB website and found that AG had gotten a rating of B because it had so many complaints that were not satisfactorily resolved.
Well, they've got a copy of my resume for what it's worth. I will write and cancel my appointment with them. Thank you for all your postings. They really help people like me to stay out of harm's way.
I was placed through the Arthur Group about 6 months ago. I did go through their strategic approach and spent about 3K in improving my resume and presentation skills. They marketed me for about 4 months- went on 4 interviews and received an offer a little under of what I was hoping for- but overall a pretty good experience. The executive level training was average at best, however. The company I am with does most of their hiring through The Arthur Group- so contrary to what you read here- they do place employees. I don't doubt that people did pay money and not get placed though. I think the volume they handle on the placement side is lower than what they handle on the service side. Anyway- surprised to hear so many negative comments. Good luck everyone.
I sent my resume to The Arthur Group for a generic careerbuilder posting for an account manager position. I received a standard careerbuilder email instructing me to call an set up a time for a "15 minute" telephone interview.
I researched their website, which only takes you in circles. In short, I thought it stunk and deleted the email. A representative from TAG called me a week or so later to see if I would be interested in scheduling a "15 minute" interview. I told her that I had checked out their site and was not interested in fee paid search firms. She got very snippy at that point and said they are only employer paid, and she could not imagine which website I had been looking at because it certainly could not have been theirs.
So... I decided to do a little more homework and found this site. Thank you for helping me not waste anymore of my time.
I was scammed in Summe 2007, but don't feel so bad after seeing the $ figures others have lost. These people should go to jail. I think the Monster and Career Builder groups should bring charges on them, since they are stinking up their sites with false information.

The Arthur Group is a scam through and through. I am amazed that people still go there at all, when it's so easy to find out about them on the internet. I got took big time, years ago when they still flew under the radar. Of course, the BBB doesn't have many unresolved claims. Executives typically don't like to admit they got suckered.
A few years ago, the Minneapolis Start Tribune ran an article that exposed them, and they STILL are in business.
And RiteSite.com, the so-called "Rights Honered" highly ethical executive job search site still lists Arthur Group jobs on their "FULL Reconnaissance" jobs list. Sheesh.

I would place this company in the same category as predatory lenders. This company preys on individuals who are unemployed, and charges them an extortionate amount of money with the impression of helping them with their future employment. While they do offer “run of the mill” resume writing and interview coaching, they use the same format every single time and it is nothing unique. I recently came across an acquaintance from a networking group who used the Arthur Group and we compared resumes and the letter they mail out to companies. They use four things on the mailing. These are apparently the best four things you have accomplished but without names because they want to place you so you can get your money back. Now tell me Barry Trimble… If you have relationships with the many, many, many companies you claim to have, why wouldn’t you put the candidates name on the mailing? It is because, you DO NOT HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH all OF the EMPLOYERS you claim to have, AND IF MY RESUME DOES NOT WORK, IT USES ME FOR BAIT TO OPEN THE DOOR… Why would you not tell me how many people you have placed using this program? Would you not want to brag about this number? Seriously, if this is so great like you told me, use the placement number as a marketing tool. Do you have that many jobs open from companies? I spoke with a so called Vice President called Dave a while ago, regarding the progress on my resumes; he never called me back after we spoke about the companies I had expressed an interest in… What type of Vice President does not return phone calls? Has anyone who has been to the office or on the website noticed that everyone is a VP or Director? They have a guy that looks like he is 18 a controller and Director of HR.
I will put my experience with Arthur Group down to my inability to research what I am buying. I will not make that mistake in the future. I urge all of you who come across this company to WALK AWAY… The attorney general will come after you soon and we will all file a class action law suit against you.

I made an appointment to meet with the Oak Brook IL agent about 3 1/2 years ago. The agent had Vice President listed on his business card. He was located in a shared office space which I think he only paid for when he actually used it.
The first meeting was discussing TAG's business services in general. He tried hard to build rapport and really tried to prop up my confidence. Yes, I have a pretty solid and diverse background so he was certainly singing my tune. The next meeting is when he answered my questions regarding their services. He wanted to do resume writing, interviewing skills and discussed how they really don't get paid until I was hired on, saying that TAG's fee comes from the signing bonus. I then asked him what types of company assignments that TAG has going. He answered that TAG has a marketing group that would target companies that I am interested in (as part of their fee). I then asked him why I needed resume writing services when he thought my resume looked very good to begin with. That's when he started nit-picking my resume and 'showing where it could be improved'. Then he really tried to close me hard and pushed to get an $8,500 sign-up fee. I told him that I had to think about it. He pushed harder so I baited the hook. 'I don't have the cash on hand right now'. He said, no problem, we take credit cards. That's when I got up and walked out the door.
Good recruiters will interview you as part of their service to their client. If they like your background, they may word smith your resume to just to polish it up a little bit before they present you. Your time, business attire and gas money should be the only expenses you should incur when being approached for a new position. Beware of everyone else who offers their 'special services'.
The Arthur Group calls people who are listed on Career Builder. The inside sales representative who called me said they wanted to interview me for a new position. She was vague in explaining TAG. I went to the meeting and found out the company is a scam.
Too bad Career Builder doesn't have a black-list algorithm to rid themselves of these con artists. Google seems to do a good job with their black-list algorithm against all of the black hat spammers.
TRS looks like it could be the re-invented Arthur Group - definitely in the same location that TAG operated out of in Oak Brook. It smells funny....beware!

I am familiar with The Arthur Group from several years ago. While I'm sure they have backed into a few placements, they clearly target and prey off the misfortunes of the nieve and unsuspecting unemployed.
If you really want to know how to go after them, do the following:
1) Get a group of you together to pursue this as a collective body.
2) Have each person file a complaint with the BBB at the same time (TAG will be faced with the need to answer the mass complaint filings and try to resolve them).
3) Contact Careerbuilder's corporate offices as a group (probably through an attorney) and ask why TAG is allowed to continue posting jobs that they do not fill.
4) Contact the various media investigative reporting teams with the following story:
(a)TAG is taking advantage of the unemployed in same fashion as the "mortgage modification companies" have recently done with people in forclosure trouble,
(b)that a large collection of BBB complaints have recently been filed against TAG, and that this organized group wants this act of misjustice corrected, and
(c)offer to have your group work with any investigative reporter that is willing to listen.
Let the media do the work with the Attorney General's office.
Bottom line, if there are sufficient numbers of you that continue to be upset enough at TAG to work together as a group with a common mission, it will be much easier to get something done, and may prove to be powerful enough to finally close down TAG (or at least cost Mr. Trimble a bunch of money trying to stave off your closedown efforts).
The Arthur Group offers very little or no value, for exorbitant fees. I know of no one from the Twin Cities who has had a positive experience with them, or secured a position throught their efforts.
I did a very thorough study of their offerings, including a lengthy interview in their offices. Both my intellect and my intuition spoke loudly that this was not (and perhaps still is not) a reputable business.
Proceed at your own risk. My advice -- seek the various senior level networking groups that are available, as a start: "Smiling and Dialing" (google it); the St. Andrews Lutheran Church job group (Eden Prairie), Execunet, etc., etc.

I met with the Arthur Group in the past and this company offers little, if any, value. I asked the VP who I interviewed with about his prior 'career' positions. He danced around the question for a long time. Then once he thought he was at ease with me he let me know that his last job was selling cars. He learned the tricks of the trade but did not enjoy selling outdoors when the weather was bad out. He boasted about all of the golf and ballpark time that now had available because he had built up such a great clientele that allowed him the option to 'meet new clients'.
I never signed on with this company.
I just received a call from someone at TAG, in Illinois, regarding my resume. Does anyone have any names of the people that 'interviewed' them in Illinois? I'd like to see if this person is well known as a scammer.

It smelled fishy when I talked to them on the phone, but became clearer when I did a quick search. Quick question, do any of those other folks listed on the website actually exist? I've only spoken with Barry. Seems like a lot of extra VPs in there...
The VP at the Oakbrook, IL office (at the time) was an overweight, middle aged guy with black hair and a lazy right eye. His pupils were dilated so I suspected he may have had an addiction problem. That lazy right eye just seemed to keep moving from left to right (back again) pretty quickly. Either that or that's a telltale sign that he was trying to con me. I'm not sure if he's there anymore as the office moved to Warrenville and I'm sure these guys are heavily commissioned - they may not last long.

Didn't the Attorney General engage a civil suit against this company in the past (in Illinois)? What was the outcome? Did they represent all citizens with complaints of fraud against TAG?
A class action would certainly get the attention of the Attorney General again.
When you visit the company website you'll see all of the 'recent' candidate endorsements. It's like they put on a reference blitz as the economy got tough and many lost their jobs. You scroll down through the endorsements and they become a trickle after 2009. They must be banking hard on taking the money of those unfortunate unemployed.
This site is funny. Arthur Group is spending their money to market a strong candidate. All they ask for is that you fix up your resume and improve your resume skills. And... you can do that somewhere. It doesn't cost anything to be featured. You don't have to be featured. You can remain in their database and try to be screened against all their other candidates. They do what they say they are going to do. You paid for services that you probably needed fixed anyway. Nobody was ever promised a job. They promoted you and if an employer was interested in what they saw, then they would set up the interview. If you work with 10 recruiters and one happens to place you, are you going to complain about the other 9? I love the person who paid $200 for a subscription program where jobs were emailed to them early and never got matched up. If your resume sucks than the recruiters will focus on someone else. Listen, the economy is bad. There are alot of companies that are not hiring and tons of candidates. Do the math. They have recently changed the ways they do business. They don't take a piece of your income if you get placed. They get paid when a candidate is placed. Also, they have real jobs and would rather make 15% on the placement. I went and looked at the BBB website. What did I find... they have an A+ rating. That is the higest rating a company can get. How does your current employer compare? If you used their services and landed your own job, well aren't you glad you improved yourself? I can understand that it is stressfull when you are unemployed, but don't just blog on a website and try to bring others down with you.

Sorry, but TAG is billing for its menu of services (as much as they can separate from the candidate) and, if they actually do any marketing, it's on the dime that they collected from the unemployed that they claim that they are trying to help.
You sound like an employee of the company by trying to pump up the services. What an absolute joke of a response.
If you need help with fixing a resume then go to a local workshop and pay $25 to a seasoned expert who will critique it thoroughly. Interview skills should come with experience and focus on your career objectives. Reputable recruiting companies will not charge you for this service and typically offer their advice as part of their client service.
That positive comment was absolutly written by Barry Trimble. During his interview with me, he spoke in short sentences and that matches up with his writing. They pray on the unemployed and it should be a crime.
This blog site is becoming more popular on Google's search engine. It's probably due to the keywords that are being picked up in the blogs due to negative candidate experiences. The site is now #3 on the return page when someone searches for TAG.
Who knows, it could become so popular that it'll list #1 on the search results in a couple of months (lol). Now that would be a kick in TAG's bottom...hahahaha!

I'm surprised by the general comments here. I went through the same scenarios as others, did a little bit of due diligence, talked to a couple of other candidates whom I'd never met and contacted a major client listed on the AG website. All were satisfied that they got what they were promised. Barry has made no promises to me that aren't in writing and has been clear about what is expected of me. My experience to this point has been positive and is not consistent with the general tone of this blog. For the record, I have no affiliation with TAG other than as a potential candidate.
Who was the major client? I am very well connected in Minneapolis and of the major companies here, all but one had not heard of this company before. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!!!!
Can you write back in 1 month after you pay your fees and let us know your thoughts then? And dont fill out the customer surveys until then...

In fact, the web site says that "We have removed the names to maintain confidentiality for our clients." Now why would they not want to list at least the company name? What satisfied client company would not want to have their name listed? Could it be that TAG has NO actual companies as clients?

It's funny how many of the endorsements are duplicates and poorly written. I bet the F500 clients that are referenced are clients that the staff had worked with before AG

This page is very popular. Key "Arthur Group" into google and the auto-fill puts "Arthur Group Scam" as the second item on the auto-fill dropdown. Even if it were just one guy (it's not), at least that one guy is giving fair warning to anyone smart enough to google TAG before using them.
I know of a Twin Cities outplacement firm that is gathering evidence from its clients about TAG. It also appears that TAG is advertising much more aggressively on CareerBuilder lately. Maybe the "one guy" posting is having an impact. Let's hope so.
Didn't these guys get ousted by the star tribune like 2 years ago? I remember them doing an article on the front page of their business section exposing their tactics and Mr. Trimble's very troubling past. Surprised to see people are still giving them money.

Visited with TRS in Oak Brook Illinois yesterday and met with Senior Vice President I wont leave a name but I doubt there is more than one.
Smelled a scam from the beginning when I was made to cool my heels in the lobyy for exactly 15 minutes. Heard the shared receptionist answer the phone for a courier service and talk to the point contact that set up the meeting then she forwarded the call to Jeff. (sounds very much like a scam office setup)
Anyway I met with a flashy used car salesman type who dominated the conversation and led it deftly. Object was to tear down the mark and build them back up leaving the impression they were in trouble but could be helped.
As he pushed the conversation I finally had to stop him and ask who they were. He acted supprised that I did not do my homework. (I did but the website offered no substantiatable information.) And became borderline verbally abusive.
Finally he asked if I was ready to take the next step which was an interview w/ my wife (????)
This smelled exactly like a timeshare pitch. I told him no I don't believe I am and he was seathing. I said goodbye and he wouldn't even walk me back to the receptionist his final parting shot as I was walking down the hall was next time you come to an interview wear a suit.

Word of warning, its a tough job market and landing a job will take time. A reputable business is always excited to share information about themselves and what they do. So I met with Barry Trimble not too long ago. Firslty, I too was made to wait in the reception area which looked like a place from the circus (Carpet). As i walked down the hallway i noticed the offices on my left were empty. A long story short, i was asked to bring my wife too. You know what was going to happen right? Trimble would tell me my resume sucked, i couldnt interview for crap, all while my wife would be sitting next to me. I think you all get the picture. It's a ploy to break you down and have your wife make you feel even worse for being unemployed. I just hope they are closed before anyone else loses there money. If you want a real outplacement/coaching company, look up CPI professional edge. They have much more to offer including public knowledge of other candidates that you can network with...

The whole story that I was told was a big stinky pile. First they tell you that you are very marketable and the next sentence is that your resume needs alot of work. Then they want to charge you for their services and collect their fee off of you when they somehow place you.
Does anyone know if they are playing the client for a fee as well? 25% fee from the client and 25% fee from the candidate, along with their 'coaching fees'.

My interest is in filing complaints with the appropriate parties from as many of the individuals posting here as possible. My belief is that complaints filed from several individuals will have more of an impact. We may also decide to pursue legal action and can share the cost of doing so. But, I would like to explore that with those willing to do something about it.

So i found Barry Trimble on Linked In and he only has 32 connections and only 2 references. One being from an employee and the other from a student. If this guy is supposed to have thousands of relationships, then why does he not show this on the largest professional networking site? How sad is that?

Wow, everyone. Thanks so much for your posts, I was just about to bite and "apply" for one of the AG posts on careerbuilder. Just to be clear, are the jobs themselves also bogus, or just the parts involving TAG as a headhunuter?
I paid TAG to help me find a job 5 years ago. They didn't promise to get me a job but did say they had connections into high paying jobs in the Twin Cities and could get me in the door for interviews I wouldn't be able to get myself. Further if I would send them "rifle shots" that is leads on jobs they would approach companies on my behalf and they would be able to "sell" me to her company much the same as recruiters do. I did the resume work with them, sent rifle shots and never heard a word even though I would call presistently for updates. They didn't have a clue. Never seemed to know what I was refering to so I don't know where the "rifle shots" went, but they did nothing for me. The did get me one interview through Fred Montana a recruiting firm that is/was part owner of TAG. It went nowhere but I wouldn't hold that against them. Barry didn't promise a job, but he did promise interviews. He didn't deliver. I should have caught on when he started talking about "C"level jobs and $200k salaries. That wasn't what I was looking for or expecting. I think TAG is slimy, but I signed the paper and gave them the check. If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

In my opinion, as a job hunter and "client" of TAG, I found no evidence that the jobs they post exist. With the quantity of jobs posted, you'd certainly think this firm has every top job available in the Twin Cities. I do not believe that is the case. I'd find another firm to work with...one that doesn't charge you money upfront.
"Fraud Doesn't Always Happen to Someone Else"
This article in the Wall Street Journal definitely reminded me of my experience with The Arthur Group and Barry Trimble.
"Research in the past five years on the behavior of victims and scammers may smash some of your stereotypes - and give you some new weapons to combat fraud. Consider:
* Many scam victims are pretty smart.
* People are very good at rationalizing their mistakes.
* Scam victims often aren't motivated by pure greed.
* Emotion and intuition can overrule logic.
* Scammers are very good at zeroing in on victims' weaknesses.
* A persuasion detector may be your best defense."
Why did this remind me of the pitch given by Barry Trimble?
1) He targets individuals who can afford to pay the overpriced cost of their "service" - i.e. must be pretty smart to have earned enough money to be a victim.
2) The article talks about being embarrassed once you realized you were caught in the trap. Don't be! He is good at tearing you down and then showing you the way back up with his help.
3) None of us were motivated by greed....just wanted to find a good job. Barry knows this a preys on it! Don't fall for it.
4) The article says "Con artists are not necessarily smarter than the rest of us. They're just better students of our habits." Its obvious to me now that Barry was very good at making you feel you didn't stand a chance at getting a job without his expert help. Don't fall for it!
5) The article says "Con artists work to control the conversation, talking fast, using exciting statements, promising big returns and acting like the victim's friend." Based on my experience in his office....this is Barry. He talked really fast. Said I should be earning big dollars.
The article talks about fighting back and here are the tips they list.
1) Ask questions - lots of them.
2) Check credentials.
3) Seek professional or informed second opinions.
4) When evaluating an offer always start your pro and con list with the "cons."
Be careful. Trust your gut! Read the fine print. Reflect on the "interview" you had with Barry. Was it truly a mock interview or was a it something designed to make you feel you need his help? High pressure sales pitches should make you stop and think. So please.....stop.....think....ask questions.
Someone made the comment about a Star Tribune article on The Arthur Group and Barry Trimble. I was curious to read it myself. There is one in the archives - from July 10, 2006. It is a good article and clearly raises concerns. Here are a couple of quotes:

"Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch settled a consumer fraud case against one company, Bernard Haldane, last year. The suit said Haldane in Minneapolis charged more than 1,000 Minnesotans $5,000 to $16,000, falsely claiming it had special access to the hidden job market, and that it accepted only an exclusive clientele and promised a job within 120 days.....In a settlement in October, defendants agreed to pay $225,000 to a restitution fund for clients. Trimble, now at the Arthur Group but formerly with Haldane, also paid $75,000."

By the way, if it's a "President & CEO" reporting to "The Board of Directors", it wouldn't pay $200K, if it were posted at all. Poppycock. Horse feathers. A Steaming Pile. They're desperate to bag bigger fish since word is getting around and they're a scam. If you're in outplacement with Right Management, Spherion, or their ilk, put your "counselors" on the spot about people like "AG Search" (their new, slightly revised moniker). See what they say. In the meantime, keep networking, going direct through the front door, and working with recruiters who can be found in the Red Book and/or belong to the appropriate trade association.
Warning from the Minnesota AG's Office
Employment agencies can be a valuable resource for some consumers seeking work. Unfortunately, some employment agencies take advantage of clients by misrepresenting the services that they actually provide. The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office recently filed a lawsuit against a Minnesota-based employment agency, alleging that it used false and deceptive claims of exclusive access to “hidden job markets” to encourage clients to
pay the agency thousands of dollars. In some cases,
agencies advertising job opportunities may only supply information about job hunting. In addition, some agencies charge up-front fees or skim large percentages off of a client’s paycheck when the client obtains employment. This is obviously in reference to the previous case against Barry.

Did you read the NYT article? "The former workers said the majority of job listings posted by the Arthur Group on online job boards were no longer active." They went even further off-line. Don't you realize that knowingly posting false ads is criminal? Did you know the AG's office is now active?
This isn't about not finding a job. Its about truth and honesty! If everything at the Arthur Group is above board, they have nothing to worry about. If not, they better hire a very very very good lawyer.....better yet a bevy of them!

That's a pretty strong story posted in the NY Times. The author wouldn't have published it if the facts weren't there. It's pretty sad when you have unethical firms preying on the unfortunate. These folks want to get jobs, they get out of bed in the morning to come listen to Barry and company's crap. Well, there's nothing left for Barry now. They forced him to remove the fake job posts and that was his 'bread and butter'. His money was made scamming candidates. As the article read, he may make one job placement a month and $30k monthly is not going to sustain all of the mouths that needed to be fed. So they took the money from those who needed it most. Too bad as many of those folks could have used the extra mortgage payment.
I'm sure his family knew the game he was playing so there's not much sympathy for them. After all, wasn't one of them the Controller?
The Illinois AG should also work with the Minnesota AG to make sure they keep Barry out of business. I'm not sure what he'll do next but the legal bills will make him work his magic even more.

I am amused by the posts here. For those of you complaining or bitching about Barry and TAG, get off your duff and do something about it. The Call of Abram

Abram in Egypt

10But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
11And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
15And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
18And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my LORD:
19Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
20Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
28And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
30And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
35And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
Genesis 20
1And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
2And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
Genesis 21
1And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
2For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
3And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
4And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
5And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
6And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
7And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
8And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.
9And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
10Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
11And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.
12And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
13And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
15And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
16And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow shot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
17And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
20And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.
21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.
22And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:
23Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.
24And Abraham said, I will swear.
25And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.
26And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing; neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.
27And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.
28And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
29And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves?
30And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.
31Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them.
32Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.
33And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.
34And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.
Genesis 22
1And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
3And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
4Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
5And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
6And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
7And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
9And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
15And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
19So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
20And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;
21Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
23And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
24And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
Genesis 23
1And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
7And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
10And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
12And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
Genesis 24
1And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
8And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
10And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
12And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
15And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
20And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
23And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?
