The Beginning

The purpose of this blog is to expose the Arthur Group for what it is.

The Arthur Group, with offices in Minneapolis and Chicago, claims to help people secure a new position in exchange for a percentage of the first year's salary.

Please leave your comments about your experience with the Arthur Group. People need to be aware of the kind of business this is.

Bad Barry

Barry Trimble was the owner of The Arthur Group. A company that promised to help job seekers find jobs for large fees and didn't. Eventually The Arthur Group shut down after a Wall Street Journal article exposed them, based on reports from The Arthur Group's own employees. Barry and the Arthur Group are now being sued by the Minnesota Attorney General.

Somewhere along the line apparently someone here found public records that show that Barry Trimble is also a convicted Level 5 child molester.

Google "Arthur Group" +"Trimble" and you get thousands results. The story is alive on Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, private email lists.

The web site may have been pulled down, but it was cached on the internet since the URL was set up in 2002. All of the lies are there. The "exclusive" job listings, which the AG will surely demand proof existed. The fact that Fred Montana started the company (I imagine Fred is running scared right now too.) Everything is cached, several times per month, for years.

Everyone is telling everyone online to file with the Attorney General if they ever worked with The Arthur Group. I did. I don't expect to ever see a dime since Barry will burn any money he has with attorney fees. But I know he will suffer. And now, his connection with the Arthur Group scam is all over the world.

You're done, Barry. But I would find it amusing to come up against each other in court.

Buh Bye Barry.

This blog is now obsolete.

Walter Breuning went to work for the Great Northern Railway in 1913 when he was just 16.

Now the world's oldest man at age 113, Breuning has became an honorary member of the Minneapolis-based Great Northern Railway Historical Society.

"The Great Northern was a real good railroad for a long time," said Breuning, who was born on Sept. 21, 1896, in Melrose, Minn.

On Saturday, he received a certificate recognizing him as the longest-living retired Great Northern Railway employee and for sharing recollections of his five decades of experiences with the railway.

The ceremony was held at the Rainbow Retirement and Assisted Living Community in Great Falls, where Breuning lives.

Breuning says his career with the railway would likely have been derailed his first year of employment if he had met James J. Hill of St. Paul, Minn., the "empire builder" who built the railway from St. Paul to Seattle through Montana.

Breuning insists he would have been fired for being too young.

But Breuning said he only ever saw Hill from a distance.

"I saw him get off the train many times," Breuning said.

Hill finished the 1,700-mile transcontinental Great Northern Railway in 1893.

He's considered a pivotal force in the transformation of the Northwest, according to the Minnesota Historical Society, with his railroad helping increase settlement, agricultural development and commercial expansion.

Breuning's career with the railway spanned 50 years, until he retired in 1963 in Great Falls.

He said he started as a "call boy," calling train crews to work. In 1918 he transferred to Great Falls and became a yard clerk earning $90 a month. Except for a short stint in Butte, he spent his career in Great Falls.

In Great Falls he was responsible for coordinating train schedules. He said Great Northern's depot was the hub for four train lines carrying hundreds of passengers and goods.

"Walter was the human computer," said Whitefish resident Jack Dykstra, a member of the Great Northern Railway Historical Society.

But the heyday of passenger trains had passed by the early 1960s, and in 1970 the Great Northern Railway merged with three other railroads.

Between rising unemployment and home foreclosures, there’s plenty to keep you awake at night. Don’t let the constant toss-and-turn ruin your health. Here are 12 remedies that’ll help bring on the zzz’s. Plus, test your sleep smarts with our quiz…

It’s 2 a.m. and you’re still awake. You’ve tried reading, watching TV, maybe even downed a cocktail or two – nothing works.

Sound familiar? It’s not just a matter of not feeling rested. Without enough sleep, you’re likely to gain weight, eat unhealthy food, smoke and skip exercise.

Whether you’re sleepless in Seattle, St. Louis or Salem, you have lots of company: According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation, more than a quarter of Americans are losing sleep over financial worries.

Read on for some common (and strange) remedies that can help you wake up refreshed. (As always, check with your doctor before using any of these.)

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Sleep Aids

1. Nytol or Sominex (Diphenhydramine)
These two popular over-the-counter remedies contain antihistamine, an ingredient usually for allergies.

They relieve sneezing, itchy eyes and other allergy symptoms, but the active ingredient – diphenhydramine – also makes you sleepy. That's why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved these drugs as sleep aids.

Who’s it for? People who worry about getting addicted to prescription drugs. They don’t require a doctor’s visit and they’re often cheaper.

Watch out: Too much of these drugs will cause side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention and blurred vision.

They can also cause headaches and daytime dizziness, so don’t drive if you feel “fuzzy.” Men with enlarged prostates should avoid them because the drugs may inhibit their ability to urinate.

Yeah, it really sucks that there are so many jokers like Barry running around out there preying on the unemployed. But they are leeches so the best thing is to do your homework and not do business with anybody that can't provide referrals. Even then it's a risk so proceed cautiously.

JobFox and TRS play the same game that Barry plays. Phony job postings in attempts to lure you in for 'premium service' fees. Don't fall for it.

WASHINGTON -- A top U.S. space researcher was arrested in a Federal Bureau of Investigation sting Monday and charged with attempting to spy for Israel.

Stewart Nozette, 52 years old, of Chevy Chase, Md., is a former government physicist who worked for agencies ranging from the Defense Department to the White House.

In exchange for thousands of dollars in cash and an Israeli passport, Mr. Nozette attempted to pass on U.S. top secret nuclear and space secrets to an FBI agent who was posing as an Israeli intelligence operative, according to an FBI affidavit filed with the criminal complaint in the case.

An attorney for Mr. Nozette didn't immediately respond to a call seeking comment. Mr. Nozette is expected to make his first appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, where if convicted he could face a life sentence.

The case recalls other alleged spy cases in recent years involving Israel, including one that collapsed in May against two former lobbyists for a pro-Israel group. U.S. officials said the Nozette case doesn't include allegations that Israel or its agents were involved.

The FBI affidavit doesn't explain how Mr. Nozette came to the attention of U.S. investigators. However, the affidavit describes Mr. Nozette's work over the past decade for an Israeli aerospace company that is wholly owned by the Israeli government. During a security search as he departed on a foreign trip in January, a security officer noted he was traveling with two small portable hard drives, which another government officer couldn't locate in a subsequent search as Mr. Nozette re-entered the U.S.

A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington didn't respond to a request for comment.

"Those who would put our nation's defense secrets up for sale can expect to be vigorously prosecuted," said Channing D. Phillips, acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

FBI wiretaps cited in the government affidavit quote Mr. Nozette telling the undercover federal agent that his former top secret security clearances allowed him access to sensitive nuclear and intelligence secrets.

"I don't get recruited by Mossad every day. I knew this day would come," Mr. Nozette allegedly is heard on wiretaps telling the FBI agent posing as an Israeli agent, according to the affidavit.

The FBI agent, using stock methods often found on the pages of John le Carré novels, arranged for Mr. Nozette to use "dead drops" at a post-office box in Washington, provided him a cellphone to send text messages, and set up an alias for use in his new Israeli identification documents, according to the affidavit.

In a post-office box dead drop last month, Mr. Nozette dropped off a sealed manila envelope containing an encrypted portable hard drive, the affidavit says. The drive contained classified information on satellite programs supporting U.S. military and intelligence operations.

Mr. Nozette, a Chicago native, was prominent in his field, working at government laboratories and research centers for decades. He helped develop a radar experiment, now displayed at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, that is said to have detected water on the moon's south pole.

John 3

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."[h]
John the Baptist's Testimony About Jesus
22After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. 23Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized. 24(This was before John was put in prison.) 25An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew[i] over the matter of ceremonial washing. 26They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."
27To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. 28You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ[j] but am sent ahead of him.' 29The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30He must become greater; I must become less.
31"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God[k] gives the Spirit without limit. 35The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."[l]

The Beginning

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Righteous! Barry is not sleeping at night as he's posting at 4:30 am. Wow, he's experiencing the anxiety that he so delivered to the unemployed.

Any update on the Arthur Group scam?

Just wondering what is going on with it

Even though Barry or his "followers" are on here trying to make it hard to read, I encourage people to take the time and go through what people wrote.

Please keep updating people on this blog

As all you know, it is not closed!!!

You can bet that Barry is lurking on this blog spot. His minions are also sneaking around here because they will be implicated in the alleged fraud of Mike Meyser and others. There's probably little doubt that the AG and legal team are gathering evidence from this blog spot to use against Barry, along with the testimony and complaints that the victims have filed.

Barry, it'll be a cold winter living in a cardboard box. You might want to catch the next train to Houston.

This blog is now obsolete.

PRAYER FOR RELIEF

1. Declaring that the Defendants' acts described in this Complaint constitute multiple, separate violations...
2. Enjoining Defendants and the Arthur Group's officers, directors, managers, employees, representatives, agents, successors, assignees, affiliates, partners, merged or acquired predecessors, parent or controlling entities, subsidiaries, and all other persons acting in concert or in participation with them, from engaging in career management, job search, or employment agency services of any nature...
3. Awarding civil penalties....for each separate violation
4. Awarding restitution for all consumers injured by the Defendants
5. Awarding Plaintiff its attorneys' fees, litigation costs, and costs of investigation...
6. Granting such further relief as provided for by law or equity, or as the Court deems appropriate and just.

So Barry you screwed up even your employees lives.

Good job, dude. And Good Luck.

Would a full judgment apply to AG employees that worked across state lines? It would be great if the IL AG joined in to stop these tramps from doing business in IL.

Not sure but maybe someone could check into that!

Scammers, swindlers and a sign of the apocalypse?

By Brian Lambert |
Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009

The story of the latest alleged scam artist working the over-extended or unemployed seems to have caught the attention of everyone in town.

Minnesota AG Lori Swanson filed suit against the guy Tuesday. The Strib's Suzanne Ziegler has the essential story of one Barry Trimble, "CEO" of something called the Arthur Group. (By now, shouldn't we all be wary of any C-O-anything at any "Group"?) Ziegler describes the attorney general's charges this way: "The company 'baited' job seekers to come to its office for job interviews by posting ads on websites such as CareerBuilder or by pulling their résumés off Internet job boards.

[The attorney general] says the company often failed to produce a single job interview or lead, even though clients paid as much as $4,500 in fees."

She finds one ex-employee who recalls Trimble once telling him, "I have money because of all the people I've screwed." Classy.

If the collection of alleged CEO-swindlers continues building as it has, authorities may consider placing a bid for Duluth's downtown jail, currently for sale by ReMax -- 32,500 sq. ft for only $60,000.

It is only about 3 minutes, but these 3 minute will transform your sex and love life forever.

Here’s the bottom-line: Women cheat on lame lovers. Women love orgasms. Women love to make love AND they love to get fucked and cum hard. Women want gentle passionate lovers AND they want sexual beasts who make their pussies squirt across the room. Welcome to the REAL WORLD of female sexuality that “they” don’t want you to know about.

Watch my video and then DO IT and you will become a woman’s ultimate lover. You will become her Sex God. She will become so multi-orgasmic and sexually-addicted to you that she will “beg” you for sex. If you don’t do it, she’ll hear about female ejaculation from someone else, become curious about it and then find a REAL MAN who will make her squirt. As you know, women are becoming more and more sexual and expect to have multiple orgasms and are willing to have multiple sexual partners. Are you up to the challenge?

Do you need a double-blind study that is published in a reputable scientific journal written by several doctors and couched in scientific jargon about the G spot female orgasm? Guess what? You won’t find one. Do you know why? Most doctors have no idea how to make a woman wet and cum hard. By the way, I have degrees in biomedical science and law, but that has nothing to do (directly) with my female orgasm skills.

All you need is right here on this female orgasm video and blog. You have no excuses, so don’t hide behind scepticism.

After you’ve watched the “hand vagina” video, watch this “real vagina” video where the technique is demonstrated on real women:

WOW great video !!!

I will have to get my husband of 8 years to try this

Fear This
By Brian Lambert

I couldn’t help but notice that President Obama chided the American media—the journalism end of it anyway—twice in Thursday’s speech on how a democracy deals with terrorists. As a guy—our first Crackberry president—who clearly understands both pop technology and pop culture, he could be forgiven if the intent of those references was interpreted as him saying, "Is it really too much to expect you guys to do your job?"

By pure coincidence, Dick Cheney was across town pretty much refuting every point Obama was making, reminding his audience never to stop being motivated by fear and expediency. If ever there was a stark, nearly simultaneous point-counter-point on the modern media dilemma of telling the public what it needs to know as opposed to telling it what it wants to hear, this was it.

Obama getting all high-minded about moral stature and how wise democracies respect morality as a vital commodity in pulling together allies in difficult situations versus mashing the nuance-free fear button over and over again, evoking one of the most reliable, atavistic responses in human nature . . . probably even more reliable than sex.

I was in the car most of the afternoon, which prevented me from wasting hours spiking my blood pressure watching the cable news response to the two speeches. But it was bad enough with NPR's Talk of the Nation, which, face it, on America's interstates is the only oasis for . . . information you need to know.

In NPR's defense, this particular show, hosted by Lynn Neary, filling in for Neal Conan, was one of those "instant reaction" things, with a couple reporters reacting to calls from around the country. The calls, no doubt screened for "balance," were pretty predictable. There was a call "inspired" by Obama's logic and respect for a high moral standard, no matter how unpleasant the circumstances.

Then came a call from Oklahoma, home state of Sen. Tom Coburn, the guy who tacked that hyper-cynical, loaded-guns-in-national-parks bill onto the credit card reform act. (And let's not forget all the climate change-denying caterwauling from his startlingly clueless fellow Sen. "the, um 'right honorable' James Inhofe. WHAT is in the water down there?) This caller expressed pride in Cheney for "keeping us safe since 9/11" and "not turning us into the French."

The NPR team responded to these and a few more with stoic, dispassionate reserve, carefully avoiding correcting any misconceptions or inserting any context that might in any way be construed as partisan. Needless to say, this meant no mention of the obvious fact that 9/11 happened on Cheney's watch and that neither he nor his alleged superior, George W. Bush, did anything after being warned a month prior to 9/11 that Osama bin Laden was determined to strike within America's borders. (The classic line there, of course, was Bush's waving off the report's messenger with a cavalier, "Now you've covered your ass.")

Obama's first reference to journalism's failure was directed at the communal collapse of professional skepticism prior amid the fear and stoked-up patriotism earlier this decade. The failure there, to American journalism's everlasting discredit, was cowering out of . . . fear . . . that it would be perceived as "unpatriotic," a thoroughly untenable commercial position.

He said, "I also believe that—too often—our government made decisions based upon fear rather than foresight and all too often trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions. Instead of strategically applying our power and our principles, we too often set those principles aside as luxuries that we could no longer afford. And in this season of fear, too many of us—Democrats and Republicans; politicians, journalists, and citizens—fell silent."

Obama's second reference was in the context of partisan point-scoring, which is currently goosing the outbreak of mass psychosis over—to hear the usual cable and radio suspects tell it—the wholesale release of turbaned, fanged, blood-sucking Muslim maniacs into our leafy suburbs and preschools.

Said Obama, "I understand that it is no secret that there is a tendency in Washington to spend our time pointing fingers at one another. And our media culture feeds the impulses that lead to a good fight. Nothing will contribute more to that than an extended re-litigation of the last eight years."

Now, Obama is a hip enough guy to "get" the straight profit calculations in those usual suspects revving up the fear machines over releasing terrorists. I mean, selling fear is what that crowd does—whether fear is packaged as illegal immigrants, black kids in saggy pants, tax and spend liberals, pushy women, Hollywood do-gooders, or . . . well, the French.

Fear is a reliable seller, and these guys have it down to a sick science.

That end of the media is a shameless game, whereas the "serious" people—big city newspapers, the major TV networks—have generally been regarded as having a commitment to something higher and better, something, you know, other than raw self-preservation and shareholder prosperity.

Obviously, that stopped being the case awhile back, about the time profit margins at your average newspaper and TV affiliate dropped below 30 percent a year and investors realized their leverage schemes were exploding in their faces.

In response to Obama's speech —and his personal popularity—I expect we'll be hearing more in coming days from the so-called "serious media" deconstructing the paranoid fantasies rampant elsewhere in the pop media—NPR had a piece today, Friday, explaining the extreme unlikelihood of any genuine Gitmo terrorist spreading jihad from the subterranean SuperMax prison at Florence, Colorado.

But the greater issue is letting flagrant "untruths" and "misstatements" (also known as "lies"), such as Cheney spewed in his speech to the American Enterprise Institute, play even for an hour in the light of day. In the digital age, with so much corroborative (or debunking) information available at the speed of Google and Nexis, why go on the air or print anything without inserting qualifiers about what so plainly smacks as false and misleading?

The answer, even in NPR's case, is, of course, the issue of commercial caution. To assert as often as you'd have to assert in the case of Dick Cheney that what he was saying was not accurate, valid, or correct under even the most generous interpretations would mean to risk sounding like . . . a liberal partisan.

Routinely exploiting this fear-based Catch-22 in professional journalists has been a fundamental tactic of the modern conservative movement. Namely, say whatever you need to say, to tell the people what they want to hear, and IF confronted with contradictory information, dismiss it as liberal quackery or the product of liberal bias.

The target "base" loves it the first time they hear it, and they love it even more when The New York Times, or NPR, gets around to demurely reporting that almost none of it is true.

Finally, there is the not insignificant issue of mainstream journalism's struggle dealing with "high-mindedness." Obama is asking his audience—us—to stop and engage our educated, adult intellects in the substantial matter of maintaining a moral standing. For journalism, this requires actively discussing what in hell he is talking about. But in a media culture largely devoted to saleable inanity—what the customers want to hear—talk of "morality" is something left almost entirely to the likes of NPR and the wonky fringe . . . if they decide to go there.

By Susie Madrak Tuesday Oct 27, 2009 1:00pm
Looks like we're going to see a push to open the public option. Get on the phones and let your congress creatures know you're behind it:

Sen. Ron Wyden has doubts about the scope of the public option plan announced Monday.

"I agree with Senator Reid that health reform should give Americans more options. Now, I want to work with him to ensure that all Americans can choose those options," Wyden said. "The bottom line is that the public option can’t really hold private insurers accountable if it is only competing for 10 percent of the insurance market, because private insurance companies aren’t going to change their business practices if 90 percent of their customers can’t take their business elsewhere.

"Real reform means empowering Americans to choose insurance that works well for them and their family, while rejecting plans that don’t. Including a public option is a step in the right direction, now let’s remove the firewalls in this bill that prevent Americans from choosing it," Wyden said in a statement.

[...][Jeff] Merkley, for example, said he would be unhappy if more Americans weren't able to select the so-called public option. As a member of one of the committees that wrote a health care bill, Merkley actively supported a government-option as the best way to maintain costs and provide greater choice. Merkley said in an interview Monday that he would press for any public option to be broadly available along the lines of an amendment he successfully offered in July when the bill was in committee.

Merkley's amendment is designed to give small businesses access to newly created health insurance exchanges that, in theory, breed competition by pooling the number of customers in a specific region. Merkley estimated that his amendment would allow nearly 25,000 more businesses – employing 485,000 workers – to enter the exchanges and 32 million people nationwide.
...

That amendment would increase the size of small businesses eligible for enter the national exchange that includes a public options. He also supports giving states the right expand the size of eligible businesses even more.

"What sense does it make to keep companies from going into the exchange?" he said.

Director Publicly Quits Church of Scientology Over Their Support For Calif's Prop 8
By Nicole Belle Wednesday Oct 28, 2009 6:00am

Yeah, it's a Hollywood mixed with Scientology story, which I normally avoid like the plague, but director Paul Haggis's very public and damning resignation from the Church of Scientology because he couldn't reconcile his belief in the fundamental unfairness of banning gay marriage and his church's support for it is definitely worth a read:

In what may prove to be an earth-shaking rupture for the organization, Oscar-winning writer and director Paul Haggis has broken publicly with the Church of Scientology, the Hollywood-centric religion that has recently come under renewed scrutiny for its political positions.

In a scathing letter to the church's celebrity contact, Tommy Davis, Haggis accused the church of hypocrisy and lies, especially regarding its decision to support the anti-gay-marriage proposition on the California ballot last year, Proposition 8.

"I told you I could not, in good conscience, be a member of an organization where gay-bashing was tolerated," Haggis wrote, referring to support for Prop. 8 in the church's San Diego branch. "You promised action. Ten months passed. No action was forthcoming."

He added: "The church's refusal to denounce the actions of these bigots, hypocrites and homophobes is cowardly. I can think of no other word. Silence is consent, Tommy. I refuse to consent."

The church has officially denied that it supported Proposition 8, however, Haggis felt that the denial was weak at best, and not the only troubling thing about Scientology:

He accused Davis of lying in a CNN interview about church policy regarding the requirement that members distance themselves from any family members who oppose Scientology.

"I saw you deny the church's policy of disconnection," he said. "I was shocked. We all know this policy exists."

Haggis said his own wife "was ordered" to break relations with her parents because of the policy, "because of something absolutely trivial they supposedly did 25 years ago when they resigned from the church. ... For a year and a half, despite her protestations, my wife did not speak to her parents, and they had limited access to their grandchild. It was a terrible time.

"To see you lie so easily, I am afraid I had to ask myself: What else are you lying about?" Haggis wrote.

Haggis's letter is available here. In it, Haggis acknowledges that the hardball tactics the Church of Scientology employs to smear those who have left the fold will be used on him as well. The Church of Scientology isn't having the best of weeks, either. They were convicted in France of fraud and the country

Blue Dog Fundraising Takes A Nose Dive. Wonder Why?
By Susie Madrak Wednesday Oct 28, 2009 7:00am From the Center for Public Integrity, some very interesting news. This sort of undercuts Obama's "let's make the Blue Dogs happy" strategy, doesn't it?

It’s official. The Blue Dog’s fundraising slowdown was not just a symptom of the dog days of summer. Newly released public disclosure forms indicate that over September, the coalition’s PAC took in its smallest monthly total yet this year.

Our analysis of the fiscally conservative and increasingly influential Blue Dog Coalition and its funding noted that the group’s political action committee had averaged more than $176,000 in receipts from other PACs over the first half of 2009. Their monthly haul dropped to a surprisingly low $27,000 in July, rebounded somewhat in August, and but then dropped again to just $12,500 in September.

That September money came from just three donations — $5,000 from accounting and professional services giant Ernst & Young’s PAC, $2,500 from the Food Marketing Institute PAC, and $5,000 from the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund.

After raising $1.1 million from January to June, the committee raised less than $87,000 between July and September — less than it brought in during any one of the preceding five months. And in just three months, the Blue Dog PAC’s monthly fundraising average dropped by more than $50,000 — probably not the sort of fiscal conservatism the 52-member coalition was hoping for.

Chris Matthews Claims the Country is "Lurching to the Right"
By Heather Wednesday Oct 28, 2009 9:00am
DOWNLOADS: (153)

PLAYS: (484)
Chris Matthews cites a recent Gallup poll in the beginning of the segment—Conservatives Maintain Edge as Top Ideological Group—which shows those who would describe their political views as conservative at 40%, moderate 36% and liberal 20%. He goes on to take this leap about just what that poll means later in the segment which Bob Herbert rightly calls him on.

Matthews: There’s a big disconnect here in the polling and I’m looking at the NBC poll, we’re going to have it more here tonight, I’ve looked at the Gallup numbers—here’s the disconnect—the Republican Party is a lousy brand name right now. It is way down below one in five, but on every issue from semi-automatic weapons to traditional values to abortion to every…regulation of business…

Buchanan: Immigrants…

Matthews: …every issue the country is lurching to the right in ideological terms at the same time as the base of the Republican brand. How do you explain that Rob?

Herbert: Are you saying the country’s lurching to the right?

Matthews: On every issue—look at the Gallup polls.

Herbert: I completely disagree with you on that.

Matthews: Ugghh…

Herbert: You’re giving too much credence to this poll. Pat just said a moment ago…

Matthews: Why don’t you look at the polls?

Herbert: …that the Republicans can unite behind all these issues for the off year elections—they can’t even—they haven’t even been able to unite in this upstate Congressional district in the Congressional election that’s coming up next week. You’ve got Republicans lining up behind the Conservative Party candidate who’s putting the knives in the back of the Republican candidate. So where’s the unity?

Never one to let logic get in the way of his preconceived notion Matthews asks if this means the conservatives are more “powerful than ever” if they’re the spoilers in Republican elections. Herbert reminds him that turning the Republican Party hard to the right is not good for them winning elections nationally. Earlier in the segment he also reminded Matthews that Republicans are not leading in a related poll about who Americans trust to run the country.

Of course Pat Buchanan, ever the staunch Sarah Palin fan-boy thinks the party needs more ideological purity and goes on to call the Republican candidate from NY-23 a liberal. As Herbert notes, Buchanan's got a pretty strange notion of who should be called a liberal these days. I would imagine the false memes continually put out by or MSM has a lot to do with people's perception of whether they are liberal or conservative or not, as was reflected in that poll. When people continually hear unions bashed and liberal treated as though it were some sort of dirty word, it's little wonder they might shy from the label.

OctBarack Obama Hates Women
by John Cole

This is just asinine:

Jesse Taylor deals with this nonsense, but I think it is important to single out Savannah Guthrie for starting all this nonsense:

NBC White House correspondent Savannah Guthrie asked him that earlier this week. She asked him if his preference for all-male hoops sends the wrong signal. Or as she put it, “Some people might look at it and say, ‘Gosh, there’s the old boys club again.’”

Well done, Savannah. Next to the #dickwhisper’s question about Obama’s bathing suit, this is the biggest waste of time by a reporter with access that I’ve seen. And, with an assist from the insiders like Tapper who want to stir things up even when there is no there there, all of a sudden we have PUMA’s and wingnuts running around screaming that Obama is a sexist. Because he plays basketball with Reggie Love instead of Anita Dunn.

The endgame of this is so obvious. This isn’t about sexism. This isn’t about Barack Obama. This is another beltway game where the press sees how much they can make the administration jump. Are they really proposing that Janet Napolitano come out and do some half court with Obama, the UNC guys, and secret service agents? Do they want Lisa Leslie on retainer?

No. This is about power and control, and this is about driving traffic to their respective website/network. They want to make the WH squirm and if they get really lucky over-react, and what better way to do it than pointless allegations of sexism? They’re just asking questions that matter, you see. “Some say it’s an all boys club,” or “Some say this looks bad” or “some say you have a problem with women.” And then what they want is for Obama to stage an all women’s game or a mixed game for the cameras, and they can say “See, there was a problem, and our focus on this issue corrected it!” Who says investigative journalism is dead! And they will pretend they have accomplished something, while ignoring the Republicans blocking everything on health care and the robber barons on Wall Street continue to rape main street and the taxpayers and so on.

There’s your liberal media. Assholes, all of them. Seriously- go read David Brock’s books. Go read Joe Conason’s the Hunting of the President. It is clear what is going on here.

This month’s Atlantic feature on “25 Brave Thinkers” illustrates, to me, the same kind of thing that is wrong with our health care debate. Their list is mostly a mix of millionaires, billionaires, miscellaneous big shots, and people with permanent positions at academic institutions.

I’m sure a lot of them do great work. But how can what you’re doing be so brave when there are no possible serious repercussions? Why is it so gutsy for Freeman Dyson to spin his global warming denial nonsense when he’s a permanent member of the Institute for Advanced Study? What could possibly happen to him as a result?

I love my iPhone and I give Steve Jobs (who is on the list) credit for that. But how on earth is it braver for a billionaire businessman to unveil a new line of consumer electronics than it is for Joe Shmo middle-class person to take out a loan to open up a new business?

We live in a society where the well off have everything and the poor have nothing. Do we have to laud the rich as brave heroes, to top it all off?

Update. I didn’t articulate this well, but what bothers me most is juxtapositions like this:

Morgan Tsvangirai, Prime Minister of Zimbabwe

Why he’s brave: He stood his ground against Robert Mugabe and is now bringing some normalcy back to the country.

Jeff Zucker, President of NBC Universal

Sardine on health care reform:

Forget all the talk about the public option for a second and ignore your political consultants who are cautioning you about the imaginary negative repercussions of a “government takeover.” The reality is this debate really isn’t about politics, it’s about health care. It’s not left or right, it’s about all of us.

People need help. They can’t afford their health care bills. People are dying. The crazy health care expenses are hurting businesses. Please don’t turn your back on these people. If you join with the Republicans and block health care reform, you’re basically saying to the American people – go fuck yourselves.

The discussion of health care reform has been endless: we’ve heard about Blue Dogs worried about being tagged as liberal, we’ve heard about CBO scores, we’ve heard about how all of this will affect the career trajectories of various powerful, well-off people. We haven’t heard much about the millions of people who have been bankrupted by health care costs under our current system. We haven’t heard much about the millions of people who have little or no access to health care.

I agree that CBO scores are important and should be discussed. And I understand why politicians’ futures are always a subject of discussion in DC. But can there be any discussion of regular human beings’ lives here? I know that everyone who appears on tv or writes for a national paper has a good health care plan already. But don’t they ever wonder what it’s like for other people they pass on the street, for the people who serve them coffee or wait their tables?

I realize that if you’re poor in this country, then everything is your fault. If you take out a loan you shouldn’t have taken out, it’s proof that you’re too much of an idiot to handle money, whereas when rich people are fleeced by Bernie Madoff it’s proof that Madoff is a super-genius monster. If you’re hit by a stray bullet, you were probably in a gang. If you’re sick, it’s because you smoke and you’re overweight. And whatever trouble you have getting a job, it’s all because of your genetically determined low IQ. And if you weren’t poor, overweight, genetically deficient and so on you wouldn’t have trouble getting disqualified because of preconditions and you’d never get scammed by bogus insurance outfits.

But still, even in a society that accepts these myths, shouldn’t there be some concern about 45 million Americans without health insurance?

And I guess I’d ask you this: the politicians and pundits who stand by and watch millions of lives destroyed by our health care system—are they any better than the people who watched that horrible crime in Richmond? I think you know the answer.

What the hell is wrong with people:

Investigators say as many as 20 people were involved in or stood and watched the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl outside a California high school homecoming dance Saturday night.

Police posted a $20,000 reward Tuesday for anyone who comes to them with information that helps arrest and convict those involved in what authorities describe as a 2½-hour assault on the Richmond High School campus in suburban San Francisco.

Two teenage suspects have been jailed, but more arrests, as many as 20 total, are expected, according to a police detective.

Seriously. What the hell is wrong with people that up to twenty people stood around or participated in the gang rape of a woman for TWO AND A HALF HOURS and they never once thought “Hey, this is wrong” or “Hey, this is a person” or “Hey, I should call the police.” I know it is unrealistic, but I wouldn’t mind putting everyone of these people in jail for life. They are sociopaths, and that poor girl’s life is ruined. I’m not sure how she will ever recover from something like this.

I know it is only 9 am, but I think it is late enough in the day to reflect on the many ways Barack Obama has let you down today. As an additional thought, why does Rahm Emmanuel hate you?

I have finished polishing the latest round of edits, corrections, and additions—even a stolen cool epigraph!—to the first section of the new tripartite Balloon Juice Lexicon (A – H). Your revisions, suggestions, and links are hereby solicited.

Specifically: I could use some good links for ACORN that would give a better flavor of the whole mishagaus than Wikipedia’s blandly correct entry. I’ve been told there is such a thing as a Cavuto Mark, but its meaning is not clear to me. I know people had some wonderful snarky links to explicate the Doughy Pantload, but the list has been lost and my google-fu is not strong enough. If there is to be an entry for Freeping, and there probably should be, someone is going to have to explain its history.

And finally, perhaps there should be some explanation of why accusations of goat molestation are so popular, but I’m not even gonna try googling that meme!

Pawlenty: The Terror from Minnesota?
Posted 7:32 am, October 28th, 2009 by Sarah JanecekMaureen DowdPawlenty 2012Tim Pawlenty

Nobody is better on gender and feminism -- and the hypocrisy thereof -- than the New York Times' Maureen Dowd. Today, in column about the gender and race of those bestowed with the privilege of golfing with President Barack Obama, she tosses in a few juicy thoughts about her view of Gov. Tim Pawlenty. She calls him "nerdy" and ..."the Terror of Minnesota." A knock, of course, on Pawlenty's comments earlier this week about Pawlenty projecting U.S. weakness on the international front.

MN conservation advocacy group docks legislators for 2009 votes

The Conservation Minnesota advocacy group downgraded dozens of state legislators in its 2009 legislative scorecard that was released Monday.

Dave Dempsey, the Minneapolis-based organization’s communications director, said only seven legislators received 100 percent approval for their votes this year on a select basket of issues including paint disposal, sustainable land use and upholding the state ban on nuclear power plant construction. That’s down from 57 legislators that scored perfectly in 2008.

“We ordered a smaller number of plaques this year,” Dempsey said. “It’s certainly indicative of a frustrating session on conservation issues for us.”

Northwest pilots' licenses revoked; Franken calls for cockpit laptop ban
Posted 4:44 pm, October 27th, 2009 by Betsy Sundquist, Staff Writer, Saint Paul Legal Ledger Capitol Report Al FrankenAmy KlobucharNorthwest Airlines

The licenses of the two Northwest Airlines pilots involved in last week's "overflying" incident were revoked today by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a day after Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., called for a ban on using laptop computers in airline cockpits.

The San Diego-to-Minneapolis flight overshot its destination by 150 miles because the pilots were apparently online in the cockpit (though they initially told investigators that they were distracted by a "conversation") and missed the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. They didn't realize their mistake until they had reached Eau Claire, Wis., at which point they turned around and flew back to Minneapolis.

Air traffic controllers and airline officials tried repeatedly to reach the pilots without success.

On Monday, Franken publicly called for a ban on using laptops in cockpits.

"We don't tolerate texting while driving, and we're certainly not standing for it while flying," Franken thundered in a statement. "It would be unthinkable to allow a driver to use a laptop. A driver responsible for the lives of dozens, if not hundreds, of passengers needs to be that much more focused on the job."

The FAA announced the license revocations today, citing violations of a number of federal regulations, including failing to comply with air traffic control instructions and clearances and operating "carelessly and recklessly."

One of the most intriguing aspects of AFSCME's endorsement of DFLer Mark Dayton for governor is how it went down. About 150 members of the union's screening committee met with all the DFL candidates -- and GOP candidate Pat Anderson -- for about 3 and a half hours Saturday afternoon. They were done with the candidates about 4 p.m., and they had their decision shortly after 5 p.m.

When the last candidate left the room around 4, each AFSCME member then voted (vocally). When the voting was done, someone made the motion to endorse Dayton, which passed easily on a loud voice vote. That was it. No bickering. No debating. Deliciously decisive for Dayton. That's surprising. All of the DFL candidates have favorable track records on AFSCME issues.

Scammers, swindlers and a sign of the apocalypse?

If the collection of alleged CEO-swindlers continues building as it has, authorities may consider placing a bid for Duluth's downtown jail, currently for sale by ReMax -- 32,500 sq. ft for only $60,000

LETS GO TO THE BEGINNING SHALL WE????
Barry - thank you.

My experience was very negative of the Arthur Group (I've noticed tonight that the Arthur Group has removed itself from Indeed.com and hence erased the 57 comments, 53 of which were very negative and 4 appeared to be from the Arthur Group...).

Look here it is - I got drawn into the trap of giving them $3,000 for services for resume preparation, blue print and letter sending. I basically met these guys over 2.5 months once a week, while they read my thoughts, chatted to me for an hour about nothing in particular and then I left to do the next section of my resume! Finally, I finished my resume and they moved me to letter sending out.

They gave me a companies register and asked me to review it and identify the companies I wanted to them to send my resume to. They offered no insight at all, nor were there any client relationships with any business. I never met anyone to put me in front of, from their clients? At the interview (with my wife?) they told me that they had clients willing to pay me $200k+ and it was wise for them to prepare me for their clients positions. They're assistance had "never" failed to place a candidate, even though their owner Barry Trimble, wouldn't declare how many people had ever been placed.

Also, the letter writing, my wife and I were told, had never failed to place a client! After the convincing sales pitch, you're left thinking why I'd be stupid not to pay them for the services, after all I'm paying them 11% for placement and these fees come out of the fee. Thankfully, I had the sense not to pay for interview skills and just told that I'd never failed an interview and as such I'd run with my own instincts. Barry, was certainly a little upset on this, as he wanted to charge me about 2-3k for this!

Finally, no one ever called me after the resume was complete, letters went out, no one called, I registered nearly a year ago and have never had even so much as a courtesy call from them since I last spoke to them months ago. Since, this I've been meeting lots of business contacts and I drop the name The Arthur Group and I've had condolences, some saying those guys should be put out of business, I thought that they were shut down, didn't the Attorney General shut them down for malpractice, etc, etc - really I felt like a moron every time I mentioned their dumb name.

My experience has left me realizing that they have no real clients, they skim jobs off the internet sites, there business model is to take 10-15 times market rate for resume writing (actually, they don't even write it).

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and would stay away.

I would definately consider supporting a class action against them for malpractice

Oh my gosh....I just talked with them yesterday. They are on career builder. I sent my resume to them and then they emailed me back. I "interviewed" with this goofy guy. They wanted me to redo my resume (asked if I would be willing to pay someone to do it), make me a "candidate" and help me find a new career....the aggressive aproach...3-6 months.( I laughed at that) At first he said it was free, unless they are not charging the company. By the time the whole conversation was done...he wanted me to pay $190.00 to start the process. (I am sure they would of tried to get more from me) When I got off the phone I was so mad (I was mad because he basically said my resume sucked)(and I worked hard on it)(which is part of the "sales" pitch)...He e-mailed me and I have not emailed him back. thank you for the information...sorry you got caught up with it. How is the new job?

DREW GRIFFIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): If you're an out- of-work executive, desperate and searching for a job, hope was being sold through these doors and up the elevators to the top floor. What appeared to be the most successful executive recruiting company in the Midwest.

MIKE MYSER, UNEMPLOYED EXECUTIVE: Had about 20 plus senior executive jobs listed on CareerBuilder.

GRIFFIN: Mike Myser just needed one. Out of work, caring for his father with dementia, the former vice president of a technology firm had quit to start a new business, but the economic downturn ended the business before it started.

So Myser went to CareerBuilder.com and was surprised. One executive recruiting company right in Minneapolis, the Arthur Group, was bucking the market and had plenty of jobs. Myser says the man who owned the Arthur Group actually told him his search was over.

MYSER: They've had 100 percent placement.

GRIFFIN (on camera): A hundred percent?

MYSER: This is what he told me.

GRIFFIN (voice-over): On January 13, Myser took the bait. The owner of the company at the top floor of this building talked him out of $3,000. Months later, Myser would learn, it was all a sham.

(on camera) This is all that's left of the Arthur Group. Court summons. File a complaint about the Arthur Group.

And the jobs that you had hoped for, saw, brought you to this company in the first place, either didn't exist altogether or were no longer available.

MYSER: I believe -- yes. I believe they never existed.

GRIFFIN (voice-over): Ex-employees tell us it was all designed to ensnare the highly-paid, high-executive wage earners. Those, you might say, at the top of the business world food chain. PAT POWERS, FORMER V.P. WITH ARTHUR GROUP: So, yes, you create this illusion that there's a bunch of jobs, but then the screening is nothing about the jobs. The screening is about, is this guy going to be a good candidate, a nice victim to spend $3,000 or $4,000 on resume and interview training?

GRIFFIN: Pat Powers, who worked at the Arthur Group as a salesman, says the victims were easy to find. Minneapolis had plenty of out-of-work executives who were reeled into the 12th floor office by fake jobs posted online. Mike Emerson admits he, too, was duped.

MIKE EMERSON, UNEMPLOYED EXECUTIVE: It really kind of played to my ego. You know, he really told me that, you know, I was one of the best candidates that he'd seen of my type in the last couple months. He could guarantee that he could find me a job over the next three, four months.

GRIFFIN (on camera): Guarantee?

EMERSON: Guaranteed.

(THIS IS THE BEST PART OF THE INTERVIEW!!!! READ HOW AROGANT HE IS!)

GRIFFIN (voice-over): The man who guaranteed all those jobs lives just outside of Minneapolis in this secluded home. On the two days we knocked on his door, the house seemed vacant. The man who lives there is Barry Trimble, the man who ran the Arthur Group.

(on camera) Barry, how are you?

(voice-over) Ever the salesman, he called me back to commend me for my, quote, "diligence" in trying to find him but declined an interview.

Instead, he sent this statement, saying the "Arthur Group was established to assist employers in finding new employees. We also provided services to improve certain candidates' materials and presentation skills." The statement says, "The Arthur Group was not immune to the difficult economic times."

It turns out Trimble was involved in something similar before. In 2005, he paid $75,000 for his role with a different job placement firm that the Minnesota attorney general successfully sued and shut down. He's also served 45 days in jail in 1996 after pleading guilty to a sex offense.

(on camera) You're a sharp guy, executive. How did it happen? How did it happen?

MYSER: I knew you were going to ask that, Drew, and of course, I ask myself that.

GRIFFIN (voice-over): Arthur Group employees who spoke to CNN say Barry Trimble could have taken in as much as $3 million over the last three years from people who should have known better, literally, selling them hope for jobs that didn't exist.

Drew Griffin, CNN, Minneapolis. (END VIDEOTAPE)

COOPER: Taking money from people who are unemployed.

The Minnesota attorney general says the Arthur Group used CareerBuilder.com to find potential victims. In a statement, CareerBuilder said it would not discuss any specific client interactions but pointed out the site warns people using it to be cautious and provides a mechanism to report suspicious activity.

Any attorney that defends Barry would be wise to get their fee upfront. Otherwise s/he will never see their money as Barry will screw them just like he's screwed everyone else.

Better yet, just let Barry defend himself against the State.
