The Beginning

The purpose of this blog is to expose the Arthur Group for what it is.

The Arthur Group, with offices in Minneapolis and Chicago, claims to help people secure a new position in exchange for a percentage of the first year's salary.

Please leave your comments about your experience with the Arthur Group. People need to be aware of the kind of business this is.

Bad Barry

Ever the salesman, he called me back to commend me for my, quote, "diligence" in trying to find him but declined an interview.

Instead, he sent this statement, saying the "Arthur Group was established to assist employers in finding new employees. We also provided services to improve certain candidates' materials and presentation skills." The statement says, "The Arthur Group was not immune to the difficult economic times."

It turns out Trimble was involved in something similar before. In 2005, he paid $75,000 for his role with a different job placement firm that the Minnesota attorney general successfully sued and shut down. He's also served 45 days in jail in 1996 after pleading guilty to a sex offense.

Delicious Pumpkin Squares and Bars (2 recipes)
by Michelle Jones and Rachel Keller

If you're looking for some new recipes for the holidays, here are two delicious pumpkin recipes for you to try. The second recipe also includes directions for making a delicious cream-cheese frosting.
* * *
This recipe comes from a collection of Amish/Mennonite recipes given to me as a shower gift. The recipe listed only ingredients and no instructions except to bake at 350.

Pumpkin Squares

4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups pumpkin
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla and oil. Add pumpkin and mix well. Combine the dry ingredients and add to the egg mixture. Add nuts if desired. Bake on a long greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until done.

Delicious Pumpkin Bars

These bars are delicious by themselves or even better, topped with the heavenly cream cheese frosting included in this recipe.

BARS:
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. each, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg
1/2 tsp. each, salt and cloves
1 c. oil
2 c. pumpkin
4 eggs
1/2 c. raisins

FROSTING:
2 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. butter, softened
1 3-ounce pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

DIRECTIONS:
Heat oven to 350 degrees, grease 9x13 baking pan. To make the bars, combine all ingredients except raisins and beat on low until moistened. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed and stir in raisins. Pour into greased pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Let cool completely.

For frosting, combine all ingredients and beat until smooth. Frost and cut into bars. Store in refrigerator.

Here is another cream cheese frosting recipe:

3 oz. cream cheese (softened)
6 T. margarine (softened)
1-3/4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. milk, if needed

Combine cream cheese and margarine, mixing well. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until smooth. After pumpkin squares have cooled slightly, spread with frosting.

You can also add chopped nuts on top.

Makes 48 bars.

The Myth of Customer Satisfaction
(Net Promoter Scores and other One-Stat Wonders)
Thank goodness for CSI (Customer Satisfaction Indexes) and NPS (Net Promoter Scores) ratings and rankings! Businesses no longer have to understand anything more about their customer base than the answer to a couple of simple questions. The keys to the kingdom of growth and success are at the door of every company!

Unfortunately, many companies adopt CSI, NPS and other one-stat wonders with the above attitude. What if I told you about an entire industry segment that proves such thinking totally and completely - wrong? Yes, wrong!

What if I shared with you scores from an entire industry segment where customer satisfaction and NPS ratings are on par or better than "best practice" industry leaders? And yet ... the companies in this industry segment are dying, not growing.

The Arthur Group's Brand Engagement™ Report codifies for companies an upgrade to current thinking toward branding's relationship to customer experience. It is The Arthur Group's first publicly accessible analysis of brand through the lens of customer experience. The Brand Engagement™ Report enhances your understanding of the two-directional interplay existing between brand and customer experience in the online world.

If you find the following fascinating and want to learn how to revolutionize and optimize your online presence, then our Brand Engagement™ Report is for you:

1) Understand how to change brand image positively with a good, not even great, customer experience online. See the relationship of this brand image impact on the bottom line.

2) See the pitfalls of NOT doing this well, and how you can destroy a great brand through poor online customer experience.

3) Discover why, if you are an online-originated company (i.e. Amazon.com), you have a distinct advantage over any offline-originated company (i.e. Nike).

4) Learn how to view your customer and visitor base through our 7 Customer Types, a perspective that will increase your capability to grow your online business (hint: no one else has this or understands these Customer Typologies™).

5) Uncover your greatest opportunity for growth – good-bye 20/80 rule for valuing customers!

6) Find out about the "gaps" between branding efforts, basic customer satisfaction and Net Promoter scoring and the online customer experience brand.

7) Get a feel for where your website might fall within our Website Brand Index™ (full report only).

8) Finally, ever feel like customers respond emotionally and yet have heard that this response cannot be quantified in relation to brand or customer experience? Think again! Our full report details five distinct customer segments using our Ethos-Values Customer Cycle™. Knowing these five segments and their impact on your bottom line can save your company time and money from creative development through market messaging.

The Arthur Group Difference
There are a lot of factors that go into deciding who you should choose as your market research, customer or user experience partner or vendor. Following are factors important to our clients and how The Arthur Group delivered**:

Speed of delivery:
"We have had to field, analyze and get full reporting in very short time frames given our industry. On a few occasions, all the above was required from major studies within just four days from start to finish (including a weekend), and they did it! Kudos and as always, much appreciation."

Extreme quality:
"Timeliness, quality of results and recommendations are our highest requirements. The fact we have been working with TAG for over a decade now speaks volumes to their ability to meet our extremely stringent requirements in this area."

Value:
"TAG's solutions are so turn-key and easy on us due to their vast background spanning almost every product and industry category. Their depth of background in methodologies contributes to project costing that you know you are getting more than your monies worth from."

Listening to your needs:
"Ultimately, you have to work very closely with whoever your information partner is under sometimes incredible pressure situations. It's important to know, without a doubt, that you as the client are being heard! We can honestly say that TAG continues to be a complete pleasure to work with on all our initiatives. They know what we're trying to say we need, even when we're not saying it very well."

Unique and proprietary processes:
"When you're attempting to create a market with a product where neither has existed, you need a market intelligence partner who can understand the uniqueness and complexity you face. They need to know every possible manner of gaining market knowledge as well as what needs to happen for a business to be successful. Out of everyone we talked to regarding our situation, and we talked to all the big players, there was only one - The Arthur Group - who created a logical and comprehensive solution for us! Given our experience, we like to say the professionals of TAG have 'forgotten more about market research and the customer experience than most other firms know.'"

Actionable recommendations:
"It's one thing to ask the right questions of the right audience, but to be able to actually understand what consumers are saying and bring that back to our business situation with recommendations we can ACT on - that's the mark of pre-eminence. We consider this aspect of their services our secret weapon against the competition."

Relevant expertise:
"Try to find an industry, methodology or analytical process they have no experience with - no really, try to find it! You will only be amazed at the breadth and depth of what they know how to do, where they have done it and who they have done it for."

** Note: individual names, titles and companies are withheld due to corporate policy and our own contractual agreements with our clientele. We operate together with our clients under extremely competitive, sensitive and politically charged situations. We will not directly attribute even compliments to specific clients in the general market forum that a website produces. Specific background information is provided as part of responses to proposal requests; however, even then we highly prize and uphold specific clients' confidentiality.

Consulting & Partnering Programs
Every company likes to believe they have all the capabilities or resources necessary to meet their needs. However, when it comes to the business of customers - attaining market position and awareness, the process of acquisition, maintaining relationships, understanding future needs, branding, etc - today's reality requires a level of expertise the overwhelming majority of companies cannot afford to retain in-house.

Our consulting options allow companies to build an understanding of where their current practices fit relative to World Class levels.

Consulting:

The Principals of The Arthur Group created the Institute for Customer Experience Success in response to the seemingly on-going state of terminology dilution and confusion surrounding Total Customer Experience Success. The creation of the Institute is simply an extension of our on-going commitment to the ultimate goal of helping companies become the best they can be in "Perfecting the Customer Experience" among their own audiences.

Through the Institute for Customer Experience Success we offer:

•Our Customer Experience Success™ Audit of your practices, protocols and methods of customer interaction evaluation and feedback. Audit can be conducted at any level desired by the client, from company-wide to a specific department or geographic level.
•Individualized, in-depth consulting with the experts of The Arthur Group, customized to your company needs.
•Advisory consulting engagement opportunities on any level of Customer Experience Success™.
•Seminar and speaking opportunities on Customer Experience Success™ and it's impact on Image, Branding and Market Position; Advertising Messaging and Impact; Marketing; and the Future of Interactivity.

•Request a Follow-Up
We also provide your company the opportunity to:

•Participate in our Customer Experience Success™ Recognition series, which publicly rewards and recognizes companies who can successfully demonstrate an on-going program and attainment of specific Customer Experience Success™ levels. Fulfilling the application requirements for this Recognition series often helps companies find areas of focus not previously known.
•Showcase your own company's examples of Customer Experience Success™.

•Request a Follow-Up

Partnering:

Need a market intelligence solutions partner who adds the "EXPERT" punch for presenting your company's consulting or agency products, solutions, services or creative? You are not alone!

If your only justification for clients to accept your concepts, ideas, research, creative direction or marketing campaign is you saying: "it's the best" or "it worked in another industry," it's guaranteed you are not attaining an optimal market position, but you probably already know that.

Maybe your agency has landed a major account and now they are asking for validation and a metric for Return on Investment?

No need to panic.

We offer opportunities to build a better, meaningful, sustainable market and customer information system for your company and its clients.

We even partner with other research agencies to develop bullet-proof, statistically meaningful and optimum quality new market intelligence or information products and services.

Interested? Let's talk.

John 3

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."[h]
John the Baptist's Testimony About Jesus
22After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. 23Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized. 24(This was before John was put in prison.) 25An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew[i] over the matter of ceremonial washing. 26They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."
27To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. 28You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ[j] but am sent ahead of him.' 29The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30He must become greater; I must become less.
31"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God[k] gives the Spirit without limit. 35The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."[l]

The Beginning

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Any attorney that defends Barry would be wise to get their fee upfront. Otherwise s/he will never see their money as Barry will screw them just like he's screwed everyone else.

The J. Arthur Group, LLC is a professional recruiting firm that exclusively represents pharmaceutical professionals.

We recruit pharmacists, preceptors, and pharmacy technicians, and we place them into some of the best positions in the country. The president of our firm, John Emanuelson, has more than twenty years of experience in the recruitment and placement of professionals into many of the nation's most prestigious companies.

We work on a contingency basis, so that a company is obligated for our fee only upon hiring and retaining for a full guarantee period a candidate that has been represented by our firm. Most of our placements are into regular, full-time positions, but we will welcome the opportuny to fulfill whatever needs our customers may have.

By way of an intensive interviewing process we selectively identify not only the best candidates, those with a sense of excellence about them, but also we endeavor to represent the best firms among which our candidates may choose. We respect the confidentiality of our candidates as well as the companies that hire them, and our fees and guarantees are competitive with other search firms, if not notably less.

While we are active in all parts of the country, we are headquarted in southern Oregon. Should you consider one of the employment opportunities in this area you may be assured that the highest levels of healthcare and pharmaceutical services are provided by the medical community of southern Oregon and northern California. As well, this community proudly serves a large population base, and our firm has a sense of great privilege to be a part of this important service.

A word about where we live . . . this is a unique and special area that abounds with opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle. Fishing for salmon, hiking the abundant trails, rafting on the Rogue River, and playing golf on our championship courses are all popular pastimes, but perhaps no more enjoyable than attending the professional stage presentations in Ashland, visiting Crater Lake, or touring our wineries and the fabled Oregon Coast. We enjoy a mild climate with only moderate rain, and we have four definitive seasons each year.

About Us . . .

While we are a new firm, we bring solid experience to our responsibilities. John Emanuelson, the President of our firm, was a successful recruiter in the Silicon Valley area of Northern California for over twenty years, and he placed a considerable number of computer professionals into many of the nation's top companies, such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe, Oracle, H-P, and Intuit. John has acquired all the customary skills of a recruiter, such as the ability to sell and the willingness to make mature judgments about potential clients, and they are tempered by a strong sense of ethics and professionalism. He has always focused on repeat business for his success, and that in turn is only based on previous success on behalf of his clients.

We welcome new opportunities to be of service to the medical community in Southern Oregon and beyond.

Here are a few tips on interviewing and preparing a competent resume . . .

Consider being ten minutes early for an interview. It gives the employer time to clean off his or her desk, finish a project, or return a telephone call before the interview starts.

It is true that the first eight seconds of an interview are terrifically important. So, be ready to greet the interviewer with a big smile and a firm handshake. It will be profitable to plan ahead what your opening greeting is to that person, too.

Scrupulously proof your resume. It’s embarrassing to have the wrong phone number or the wrong email address on such an important document, or to have a grammatical error in it.

Print your resume on really good paper, not just the stuff that is in the copier at the local copy shop. Really good paper only costs a few cents for each page.

Approximately fifty percent or half of the time, jobs are filled by people that were referred by someone that already works at a company or knows someone that works there. So, your chances of getting a job are abundantly helped by getting your friends, neighbors, and relatives to refer you to their bosses or the Personnel Departments at their workplaces.

In 2005, he paid $75,000 for his role with a different job placement firm that the Minnesota attorney general successfully sued and shut down. He's also served 45 days in jail in 1996 after pleading guilty to a sex offense.

AGA Medical Wins Patent Infringement Injunction
A German company must stop producing a line of occluders after a German court determined that they infringe upon a patent owned by Plymouth-based AGA Medical Holdings.
November 2009 | by Christa Meland

A German-made medical device infringes on a patent owned by Plymouth-based AGA Medical Holdings, Inc., a judge determined last week.

A court in Düsseldorf, Germany, has granted a preliminary injunction against the manufacture and sale of the Figulla Flex occluders manufactured by German company Occlutech.

On Thursday, more than 2,700 of the occluders were seized from Occlutech’s facility in Jena, Germany.

An occluder is a medical device that closes a hole in the wall of the heart.

Following the court’s decision, Occlutech can no longer sell any of its occlusion products in Germany or produce them for sale outside of Germany.

AGA Medical—which was founded in 1995 by former University of Minnesota medical researcher Kurt Amplatz—manufactures medical devices that treat heart defects and vascular diseases. Its signature Amplatzer device is a minimally invasive treatment for heart defects.

AGA Medical issued an initial public offering on October 26—making it the first Minnesota-based company to go public in almost two years. The company offered 13.75 million shares priced at $14.50 per share.

Digital River Lands Contract With Ubisoft
Under the agreement, Digital River will provide e-commerce services to power stores that support online sales and downloads of Ubisoft's popular video game brands.
November 2009 | by Christa Meland

Digital River said Friday that it has landed a contract with Ubisoft, which produces, publishes, and distributes interactive entertainment products.

Under the agreement, Digital River will provide e-commerce services to power stores that support online sales and downloads of Ubisoft’s popular video game brands, including Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

The announcement comes less than a month after Digital River’s largest customer, Symantec Corporation, said that it will not extend a contract that expires on June 30, 2010. Cupertino, California-based Symantec, which accounts for almost a quarter of Digital River’s revenue, plans to move the online traffic now outsourced to Digital River to an internally developed e-commerce system.

The financial terms of the deal between Digital River and Paris-based Ubisoft were not disclosed.

Digital River, which historically provided e-commerce platforms mostly for software providers, has recently begun to run online stores for video game providers—and the company has no plans to stop.

“We continue to expand our e-commerce leadership position in the global online gaming market,” Digital River CEO Joel Ronning said in a statement. “We offer publishers multiple revenue models in a single e-commerce solution. From in-store sales to reoccurring billing and in-game commerce, the strength of our best-of-breed solution continues to attract top game publishers from around the world.”

On Monday, Digital River announced that it signed a new e-commerce agreement with Pentax Europe Imaging Systems. Under the agreement, the terms of which were not disclosed, Digital River will launch an online store and provide e-commerce services to support consumer sales of Pentax cameras in the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Hungary.

Digital River, whose 2008 revenue totaled $394.3 million, builds and manages online businesses for software and game publishers, consumer electronics manufacturers, distributors, online retailers, and affiliates. The company's platform offers site development and hosting, order management, fraud management, export controls, tax management, physical and digital product fulfillment, multi-lingual customer service, advanced reporting, and strategic marketing services.

Arthur Area Association Marketing
Have you got some new ideas in how to promote Arthur? Are you part of a group, local event or business that advertises to the public in the hope of attracting people for any reason? If so, the Association of Commerce .Marketing Committee would like to hear from you.

The Association Marketing Committee is reaching out to anyone who would like input into how we might better promote Arthur to potential event attendees, visitors, customers, new businesses or potential residents. We need new ideas to let people know what a great place Arthur is to live, work and visit. Plus we are offering group advertising savings to any business or entity that wants to join together in group advertising for special events and seasonal marketing plans.

If you have experience or talent in marketing, advertising, print radio or TV media, internet and web layout or design, or can write creative copy and want to help develop new Arthur marketing campaigns for festivals and events, general seasonal Arthur marketing, and longer term outreach marketing to customers and visitors, you might want to help.

Or, if you just have opinions on past Arthur advertising-good or bad, or new ideas on where or how we should try promoting the town, the businesses, the area or specific events, we’d like to hear from you.

If you are involved in any way with a group or activity that reaches out for customers or visitors (advertises) you should at least join our mail list to keep abreast of the new ideas and how you or your group can be included and benefit from group ads, event calendars, mailings and promotions. You or your group can participate in lower cost group advertising and get more bang for your advertising dollar. Many advertising projects may qualify for advertising grant money from the state of Village if included in our AAAoC annual plans.

Developing an Arthur marketing plan is a continuing process of review and will take a long term approach. Much of the marketing planning is developed many months in advance of the event or season and specific ad creation will be developed and discussed thru email rather than frequent meetings, so getting involved should be easy.

Contact George Fritz at The Woodloft, 543-2766 or george at arthuril.com or Rod Randall at Randall Electric, 543-3133 or randall at arthur.k12.il.us if you want to be involved or just be kept in the loop.

A U.S. Army major opened fire on fellow soldiers Thursday in the heart of the giant Fort Hood Army base in central Texas, killing 11 people and wounding at least 31 in one of the worst incidents of soldier-on-soldier violence in military history.

.The officer, Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, was later shot and killed by security personnel on the base, which is about 160 miles southwest of Dallas.

Two other soldiers were in custody, base officials said, amid indications that the attack may have been premeditated and well-organized.

Military officials said that Maj. Hasan was a psychiatrist who had been recently promoted to major and transferred to Fort Hood from Washington's Walter Reed Medical Center. Maj. Hasan's professional specialties included post-traumatic stress disorder, combat stress and other emotional issues common to the troops implicated in earlier incidents of military fratricide.

A defense official said that there "were some signs that this might be an Akbar-type event," a reference to a bloody incident in early 2003 when Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar threw grenades into tents occupied by fellow members of the 101st Airborne Division.

Two officers were killed in the 2003 attack in Kuwait, which wounded 14 others. Military prosecutors said that Sgt. Akbar, who was ultimately sentenced to death, was motivated by anger at the deaths of Iraqi civilians at the hands of U.S. troops.

.Other shooting incidents have been linked to combat stress and and emotional problems many soldiers are suffering after long, repeat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. With the military stretched thin by the long wars, many troops have done three and in some cases four tours to the war zones.

Last May, Sgt. John M. Russell, who was on his third overseas deployment, managed to grab an assault rifle from a fellow soldier before opening fire on the main U.S. military base in Baghdad. Sgt. Russell has since been charged with five counts of murder.

Charles Figley, a mental-health professor at Tulane University, said he wouldn't be surprised if the Fort Hood attack turned out to be related to combat stress. Repeated overseas deployments have taken a toll on soldiers' mental health, he said.

Anonymous said...

"I frankly thought that something like this would have happened earlier," Prof. Figley said. "It clearly is a pressure cooker for these folks."

The Army has gotten better at identifying signs of stress in soldiers and getting them help, he said. Fort Hood is home to the Army's Warrior Combat Stress Reset Program, which aims to help soldiers deal with stress and return to peacetime life.

The Fort Hood shootings, which began about 1:30 p.m. central time, took place in a processing center where soldiers preparing to deploy overseas receive medical checkups, officials said.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, commander of the fort, said in a televised news conference that two handguns had been used in the attack.

One of the dead was a civilian police officer at the base, he said, adding that the "extent of the injuries varies significantly."

Thursday's attack was one of the Army's worst single-day losses of life since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The stricken base, Fort Hood, is the largest U.S. military facility in the world. It houses the 1st Cavalry Division and the First Army Division West, as well as an array of smaller aviation, logistics, and military police units.

More than 45,000 soldiers are assigned to the base, though many are typically deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq at any one time. About 9,000 civilians also work at the base, and thousands of families live on the base and in nearby Killeen.

Daniel Clark hugs and comforts his wife Rachel Clark outside of Fort Hood. Daniel's daughter is in an elementary school on the post where it was locked down after the shooting happened on base.
.President Barack Obama called the shootings "a horrific outburst of violence."

"It's difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas," he said. "It is heartbreaking that they should come under fire on an army base on American soil."

In the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for a moment of silence just before 6 p.m. Eastern time.

"We do not know the nature of this attack, but it's a serious attack upon our war fighters," Rep. John Carter (R., Texas), whose district includes Fort Hood, told his colleagues, adding that most of those at Fort Hood have been deployed four times. "It is a real tragedy…These families are losing loved ones."

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) said, "I know that all of us are extraordinarily saddened and shocked by this incident. Our hearts, our minds, our prayers, go out to the families of all those whose lives have been lost."

Prescriptions: On the Hill, Protesters Chant 'Kill the Bill' At the same time, Congressional Republicans sought to unleash the forces of an emerging conservative movement against the Democratic plan, urging thousands of opponents gathered for a quickly scheduled rally in front of the Capitol to help them do whatever it takes to defeat the legislation.

Making a surprise public appearance at the White House while the protest was under way, Mr. Obama pointed to backing from the American Medical Association and the AARP as evidence that those most familiar with the nation’s health care system view the Democratic plan as a way to correct its problems

“We are closer to passing this reform than ever before,” the president told reporters. “And now that the doctors and medical professionals of America are standing with us, now that the organizations charged with looking out for the interests of seniors are standing with us, we are even closer.”

House Democrats were aiming for a vote on the $1.1 trillion, 10-year House measure by Saturday evening but had several hurdles to clear. Several senior Democratic lawmakers and officials said they were confident they could assemble the minimum 218 votes necessary for a victory. But though they said they were approaching that number, they did not yet appear to have the required support. The president was to travel to Capitol Hill on Friday to make a final personal appeal.

Some Democrats from more conservative districts, like Representative Ike Skelton of Missouri and Representative Dan Boren of Oklahoma, disclosed that they would oppose the measure; several others, like Representative Jim Cooper of Tennessee, remained undecided. Others who had been considered on the fence, Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, were preparing to endorse the measure.

And Democrats picked up one enthusiastic vote Thursday as John Garamendi of California was sworn in as a new representative of the Bay Area after his victory in a special election Tuesday night.

“This is something I have worked on for more than 35 years,” said Mr. Garamendi, a veteran state official. “This time we will get it done.”

Others were also coming on board.

“I’m getting there,” said Representative Zack Space, an Ohio Democrat who won a Republican seat in the Democratic takeover of the House in 2006.

Republicans were determined to make passage of the measure as difficult as possible. They sought to draw attention to analysis that they cited as proof that the bill would allow illegal immigrants access to government care even as Democratic leaders struggled to ease concerns of Hispanic lawmakers that the proposal was too punitive in banning access to care. Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus were taking their concerns to the White House.

A line of House Republicans spoke to the crowd gathered at the West Front of the Capitol, assailing the Democratic measure as a government takeover of health care that needed to be stopped.

“This bill is the greatest threat to freedom that I have seen in the 19 years I’ve been in Washington,” said Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the Republican leader.

As protesters from around the country gathered for the rally, they chanted: “Kill the bill. Kill the bill.” “The government couldn’t even get the shots out,” said Karen Ambrose of Sunbury, Ohio, ridiculing the government’s efforts to vaccinate people for the H1N1 flu as an example of what government-run health care would look like. “Let’s just get the government out of all this.”

Democratic leaders said they expected to face a series of unusually difficult procedural votes before the vote on the bill itself. Party leaders said they were trying to shape a preliminary vote to allay concerns of anti-abortion Democrats demanding that public money not be used to pay for abortions or go to insurance plans that cover abortions.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California, who told a private meeting of Democrats on Thursday that she would have written a much more aggressive health bill if it were up to her alone, said Democrats were on a path to get the measure through the House in what looms as a landmark vote.

“We have a historic opportunity for us to, again, provide quality health care for all Americans,” she told reporters. “It’s something that many of us have worked our whole political lifetimes on.”

The information contained in this database is also available in the CMS publication titled Your Medicare Benefits.

It is important for you to understand that Medicare does not cover everything, and it does not pay the total cost for most services or supplies that are covered. You should talk to your doctor to be sure you are getting the service or supply that best meets your health care needs.

The amount of your coverage is also dependent on whether you have coverage under Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, or both. Medicare Part A typically pays for your inpatient hospital expenses and Medicare Part B typically covers your outpatient health care expenses including doctor fees.

A benefit is a health care service or supply that is paid for in part or in full by Medicare.

Note: If you belong to a Medicare Advantage (formerly Medicare + Choice) plan, it must cover at least the same benefits covered under Medicare Part A and Part B. However, your costs may be different, and you may have extra benefits, like coverage for prescription drugs or extra days in the hospital. You should contact your Medicare Advantage plan administrator for specific coverage information for the plan in which you are enrolled. Barry Trimble was the owner of The Arthur Group. A company that promised to help job seekers find jobs for large fees and didn't. Eventually The Arthur Group shut down after a Wall Street Journal article exposed them, based on reports from The Arthur Group's own employees. Barry and the Arthur Group are now being sued by the Minnesota Attorney General.

Somewhere along the line apparently someone here found public records that show that Barry Trimble is also a convicted Level 5 child molester.

Google "Arthur Group" +"Trimble" and you get thousands results. The story is alive on Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, private email lists.

The web site may have been pulled down, but it was cached on the internet since the URL was set up in 2002. All of the lies are there. The "exclusive" job listings, which the AG will surely demand proof existed. The fact that Fred Montana started the company (I imagine Fred is running scared right now too.) Everything is cached, several times per month, for years.

Everyone is telling everyone online to file with the Attorney General if they ever worked with The Arthur Group. I did. I don't expect to ever see a dime since Barry will burn any money he has with attorney fees. But I know he will suffer. And now, his connection with the Arthur Group scam is all over the world.

You're done, Barry. But I would find it amusing to come up against each other in court.

Buh Bye Barry.

Genesis 24
1And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

2And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

3And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

4But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

5And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?

6And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.

7The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

8And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.

9And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

10And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.

11And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.

12And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

13Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

15And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

20And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

21And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.

22And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;

23And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The United States and China sparred over exchange rates at a meeting of Asia Pacific leaders on Sunday, pointing to tricky talks ahead for President Barack Obama when he flies to China to address economic tensions.

The discord surfaced at a summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Singapore when a reference to "market-oriented exchange rates" was cut from a communique issued at the end of two days of talks. An APEC delegation official said Washington and Beijing could not agree on the wording.

That underscored strains likely to feature when Obama travels to Shanghai later on Sunday following moves by Washington to slap duties on various Chinese-made products and a growing drumbeat of pressure on Beijing to let its yuan currency strengthen.

It also suggested investors should be cautious about betting on a yuan appreciation after a central bank statement last week appeared to give the green light for strengthening.

"China has pledged to keep monetary policy moderately loose, and their concern is still the economic recovery," said currency strategist Enrico Tanu Widjaja at OCBC Bank in Singapore. "They will probably let the yuan strengthen when they start tightening policy."

Chinese officials have grown testy about the pressure over the yuan. Chinese banking regulator Liu Mingkang told a forum in Beijing on Sunday that ultra-low interest rates in the United States were fuelling speculation in overseas asset markets and threatened the global economic recovery. [ID:nPEK143256]

Obama pledged on Saturday to deepen dialogue with China rather than seek to contain the rising power, which is set to overtake Japan next year as the world's second-largest economy.

But issues ranging from the yuan and trade tensions to human rights could complicate what many regard as the most important relationship of the 21st century.

"With regards to trade, this is a difficult time for the U.S.-China relationship," said Derek Scissors, trade economist at the conservative Heritage Foundation in Washington.

"The signs are actually getting worse instead of better."

SPECULATION ON YUAN MOVE

Chinese President Hu Jintao ignored the yuan issue in several speeches at APEC and focused instead on what he called "unreasonable" trade restrictions on developing countries.

An earlier draft pledged APEC's 21 members to maintain "market-oriented exchange rates that reflect underlying economic fundamentals." That statement had been agreed at a meeting of APEC finance ministers on Thursday, including China, although it made no reference to the yuan.

A U.S. official sought to play down talk of discord over the removal of the reference to currencies, and said the actual discussions took place among aides, not leaders.

He also signaled Obama was prepared to discuss the yuan when he gets to China. In an interview with Reuters last week, Obama said he planned to raise the issue on his trip

Washington says an undervalued yuan is contributing to imbalances between the United States and the world's third-biggest economy. China is pushing for U.S. recognition as a market economy and concessions on trade cases that would make it harder for Washington to take action against Chinese products.

The yuan has effectively been pegged against the dollar since mid-2008 to cushion its economy from the downturn.

China is coming under growing international pressure to let it rise because its manufacturers have gained market share at the expense of rivals in countries whose currencies have risen against the falling dollar.

China's central bank said last week it would consider major currencies in guiding the yuan, suggesting a departure from an unofficial peg.

However, Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Chen Jian on Sunday played down talk of a shift in policy as well as expectations of a rise in the yuan's exchange rate.

Beijing may have forced APEC to tone down its language on currencies to avoid encouraging bets on yuan appreciation that would suck speculative capital into China and fuel asset bubbles and inflation.

By Friday dollar/yuan volatilities were implying the strongest expectations the Chinese currency would appreciate since June, and the market for offshore non-deliverable forwards pointed to a 3.6 percent rise in 12 months.

GLOBAL IMBALANCE

Obama told APEC leaders the world economy was on a path to recovery but warned that a failure to rebalance the global economic system would lead to further crises.

He said the world could not return to the same cycles of boom and bust that sparked the global recession.

"We cannot follow the same policies that led to such imbalanced growth. If we do, we will continue to drift from crisis to crisis, a failed path that has already had devastating consequences for our citizens, our businesses, and our governments," Obama said.

Obama's strategy calls for America to save more, spend less, reform its financial system and cut its deficits and borrowing. Washington also wants key exporters such as China to boost domestic demand.

The APEC statement endorsed stimulus measures to keep the world from sliding back into recession and urged a successful conclusion to the Doha Round of trade talks in 2010.

APEC is the last major gathering of global decision-makers before a U.N. climate summit in Copenhagen in three weeks meant to ramp up efforts to fight climate change.

Those negotiations have largely stalled, but a U.S. official said Obama had backed a two-step plan by the Danish prime minister to aim for an operational agreement and to leave legally binding details until later.

The APEC statement dropped all references to emissions reductions that had been in earlier drafts.

In Minneapolis today, the attorney general filed a lawsuit against a company called the Arthur Group, charging it with operating a scam targeting out-of-work Minnesotans. But this wasn't just any run-of-the-mill job scam. This one targeted former executives, people who shouldn't be an easy mark. And as you're about to see, selling hope to people who should know better. It's not necessarily a hard sell, not in this economy.

Anonymous said...

Myser went to CareerBuilder.com and was surprised. One executive recruiting company right in Minneapolis, the Arthur Group, was bucking the market and had plenty of jobs. Myser says the man who owned the Arthur Group actually told him his search was over.

On January 13, Myser took the bait. The owner of the company at the top floor of this building talked him out of $3,000. Months later, Myser would learn, it was all a sham.

Anonymous said...

And the jobs that you had hoped for, saw, brought you to this company in the first place, either didn't exist altogether or were no longer available.

MYSER: I believe -- yes. I believe they never existed.

Ex-employees tell us it was all designed to ensnare the highly-paid, high-executive wage earners. Those, you might say, at the top of the business world food chain. PAT POWERS, FORMER V.P. WITH ARTHUR GROUP: So, yes, you create this illusion that there's a bunch of jobs, but then the screening is nothing about the jobs. The screening is about, is this guy going to be a good candidate, a nice victim to spend $3,000 or $4,000 on resume and interview training?

Anonymous said...

Pat Powers, who worked at the Arthur Group as a salesman, says the victims were easy to find. Minneapolis had plenty of out-of-work executives who were reeled into the 12th floor office by fake jobs posted online. Mike Emerson admits he, too, was duped.

Anonymous said...

MIKE EMERSON, UNEMPLOYED EXECUTIVE: It really kind of played to my ego. You know, he really told me that, you know, I was one of the best candidates that he'd seen of my type in the last couple months. He could guarantee that he could find me a job over the next three, four months.

Anonymous said...

The man who guaranteed all those jobs lives just outside of Minneapolis in this secluded home. On the two days we knocked on his door, the house seemed vacant. The man who lives there is Barry Trimble, the man who ran the Arthur Group.

(on camera) Barry, how are you?

(voice-over) Ever the salesman, he called me back to commend me for my, quote, "diligence" in trying to find him but declined an interview.

Instead, he sent this statement, saying the "Arthur Group was established to assist employers in finding new employees. We also provided services to improve certain candidates' materials and presentation skills." The statement says, "The Arthur Group was not immune to the difficult economic times."

Anonymous said...

It turns out Trimble was involved in something similar before. In 2005, he paid $75,000 for his role with a different job placement firm that the Minnesota attorney general successfully sued and shut down. He's also served 45 days in jail in 1996 after pleading guilty to a sex offense.

The Minnesota attorney general says the Arthur Group used CareerBuilder.com to find potential victims. In a statement, CareerBuilder said it would not discuss any specific client interactions but pointed out the site warns people using it to be cautious and provides a mechanism to report suspicious activity.

Preface
The basic idea for the Pomodoro Technique came to me in the late ‘80s, during my first years at
university.
Once the elation from completing my first-year exams had subsided, I found myself in
a slump, a time of low productivity and high confusion. Every day I went to school, attended
classes, studied and went back home with the disheartened feeling that I didn’t really know
what I’d been doing, that I’d been wasting my time. The exam dates came up so fast, and it
seemed like I had no way to defend myself against time.
One day in the classroom on campus where I used to study, I watched my classmates
with a critical eye, and then looked even more critically at myself: how I got myself organized,
how I interacted with others, how I studied. It was clear to me that the high number of
distractions and interruptions and the low level of concentration and motivation were at the root
of the confusion I was feeling.
So I made a bet with myself, as helpful as it was humiliating: “Can you study – really
study - for 10 minutes?” I needed objective validation, a Time Tutor, and I found one in a
kitchen timer shaped like a pomodoro (the Italian for tomato) – in other words, I found my
“Pomodoro”.

Advanced Search >> According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 36 percent of unemployed people -- or 5.4 million -- had been without a job for 27 weeks or more in September 2009.

Whether you're out of work for five days, five weeks, five months or five years, any period of unexpected unemployment can be frustrating -- especially when it seems to go on forever. Although the economy seems to be showing signs of recovery, any job seeker who has been out of work for a long time will tell you: It's still not easy to find a job.

Anonymous said...

"Even though there are positive indicators, companies aren't adding jobs now at the rate they cut jobs over the last year," says Noah Blumenthal, best-selling author of "Be the Hero: Three Powerful Ways to Overcome Challenges in Work and Life." Despite that, Blumenthal reminds us that economic activities are cyclical. "Every boom feels like it will last forever and so does every bust. But none of them do. Know that things will turn around. The jobs will come back."

Laura Torres, a 28-year-old development associate in Boston, knows firsthand about being frustrated with a job search. She was laid off in December 2008 and didn't find a job for about nine months.

"The most frustrating aspect was not feeling totally in control of the process -- particularly once you started interviewing at a job," she recalls. "Obviously you can play the game and even play it well, but your fate is still up to a small group of people. The agonizing wait between the interview and the follow-up is eerily reminiscent of trying to date someone who 'just isn't that into you.'"

Elena Sokolow-Kaufman, 30, who works at small nonprofit in Massachusetts, also had a frustrating job search. After being unemployed for a little more than two months, she reached a breaking point.

"I had sent out a lot of résumés and had a few interviews for specific job opportunities, but nothing seemed like it was moving forward. At the time I was going on a lot of informational interviews, and at that point I started to feel very burned out," she recalls.

If you do reach a breaking point like Sokolow-Kaufman, Blumenthal says it's important to switch things up and try something new in your job search. Doing so will reinvigorate you and help you stay motivated.

"When you've been searching [for a job] for a long time, it can wear you out. You need to do things to keep you excited about your job search so that you keep going," he says. "The most important thing you can do is keep yourself eager, motivated and energized to continue the search."

Anonymous said...

To revitalize her efforts, Sokolow-Kaufman says she started a blog, in addition to working on her search in coffee shops with friends who were in the same position.

"It helped me a lot to feel less isolated and was a good reminder that many other people were in the same boat I was in," she says.

Torres also took measures to revive her job search by narrowing her focus in order to find a job she really wanted. In the meantime, Torres challenged herself by applying for jobs outside of her interests or background.

"I never got interviews for these jobs, but it helped me think outside the box a little," she says. "I also sometimes just had informational interviews with people whose careers were markedly different from mine. Again, this was to broaden my horizons a bit and give me more perspective."

If you (and your job search) are stuck in a rut, here are five ways Blumenthal suggests to rejuvenate your job search and mix things up a bit:

1. Go online
"You've sent out more résumés than you can count. But have you tweeted? It's a social networking world. Build your online connections on services like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Then use that platform to make value-added observations about your line of work and job searching. You never know where your electronic connections can lead," he says.

2. Separate yourself
"Hiring managers and recruiters receive tons of résumés. Some are better than others, but frankly, none of them stand out. You need something else," he says. "Try writing an article or two about your field. Print them up on glossy paper with a nice graphic design. Add a professional bio, and put it all together in a nice folder. Now, instead of sending a résumé, you're sending a press kit on you. That stands out."

3. Have fun
"I know a woman who once sent her résumé folded up and stuffed inside of a baby sneaker. Her note said she was sure to be a 'shoe-in' for the job," he recalls. "If you are bored with your job search, it will show in your materials, your applications and your interviews. So have some fun." (And yes, the 'shoe-in' did get the job.)

4. Set a big goal
"You've already met 100, 200, 500 people? Set a goal to meet and have one-on-one conversations with 100 new people this month. Is it possible? Can you do it? Use Facebook. Go to professional meetings. Ask 10 friends to introduce you to 10 new people. It doesn't matter if they are in your field. This is the "Six Degrees of Separation" game. Meet up and let the new connections take you where they will," he says.

5. Go to work
"Volunteer at a local charity or political organization. You have the time, and this helps you in so many ways," he says. How? It feels good to help; you're using your skills; you're meeting new people; you're getting off the couch and out of the house; and you will build your stockpile of stories. "When you meet people or interview, the connections you make are through your stories. What better story to tell than something that happened while you were helping make the world a better place?"

Ultimately, Blumenthal reminds job seekers to treat their job search like a job, and like a project that has a long-term objective.

"Do what you would do if this were such a project. Celebrate milestones and accomplishments along the way. Appreciate what you love about this job. After all, you can work in your pajamas, set your own hours, work from Starbucks and pick your kids up from school."

The Myth of Customer Satisfaction

I interviewed with the Arthur Group on various occasions, went through their screening process, and NEVER got even 1 interview from them. My 20 years experience wasn't enough for them, not even for a mid-level management position. I gave up on them and wouldn't recommend them to anyone else.

The writer of arthurgroup.blogspot.com has written a superior article. I got your point and there is nothing to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: The amount of work you put into a project is inversely proportional to how much your boss/professor/higher-than-you I will be back.

22And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;

23And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?

30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." 27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was good

30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was good
